Good morning, McCoven!
And Happy Monday. Over the weekend, Tony Watson exercised his player option, meaning he will be returning in 2020. Which is good, because there are a lot of question marks about next season, so that’s at least one taken care of.
Two other big question marks will begin to be answered today, because today is the day that the Giants have to extend qualifying offers to Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith. The latter has been with the team since 2016, and is coming off of a massively successful season, in which he was the team’s only All Star. The other is a fan favorite Forever Giant who was drafted by the team and has had a massively successful career, leading the 2014 team to their third championship in five years. Fans will be saddened if Smith leaves, but they will be gutted if Bumgarner does.
Ah, the joys and terrors of the offseason. Gotta love it.
