Maybe you saw Carmen tweeting about this the other day, but in case you missed it, here’s a shirtless Dereck Rodriguez pushing a mid-sized SUV as part of his offseason training program in Puerto Rico:
Now, this appears to be a common exercise in Puerto Rico, as MLB.com spotlighted Twins pitcher Jose Berrios doing the same thing last offseason:

A little “inside baseball” here: this is exactly how I train in the offseason. Pushing a mid-sized SUV through city streets is a really great way to exercise the lower half, since during the blogging season, my legs experience almost zero activity on account of all the sitting.
Now, maybe this is just a generational thing, but D-Rod’s shirtless offseason workout video doesn’t equal Andres Torres’, as seen on Showtime’s “The Franchise”:
There’s utility in doing resistance training with whatever’s available and there’s also the added value of working muscle groups in novel ways. Plus, it just sounds cool to push a car as part of a workout.
This is also the sexiest development of the Giants offseason. So far, anyway.
