The last edition of “Would you rather?” did so well that I wanted to do a second edition with my overflowing thoughts.
First, I just wanted to say the Kruk & Kuip vs. Jon & Dave debate really sparked some strong feelings. I don’t know what I was expecting, but the results still managed to surprise me. Same with the Dodgers winning a World Series vs. Madison Bumgarner in a Dodgers uniform. I know I picked the Dodgers winning the World Series but I’m surprised so many other people agreed with me. I was ready to be tarred and feathered.
In any case, let’s get right to the next set of Sophie’s choices. Choose wisely, friends!
1. Would you rather: Erase Matt Cain’s Perfect Game or Both Tim Lincecum’s no-hitters from franchise history?
The above events mean a lot to me. Matt Cain because he achieved something that has only been done 23 times in Major League Baseball history. And because well, Matt Cain. Tim Lincecum showed dominance not once, but twice, with no-hitters against the San Diego Padres. And because also, Tim Lincecum. So if you had to choose, which one would you delete from San Francisco Giants lore?

Tim Lincecum’s No-Hitters
My thoughts: Ughhhh... I dunno. This one is really hard. I think about all the defining moments within the game. Gregor Blanco’s amazing catch in Cain’s perfecto. Or Hunter Pence diving and making an impossible play in Lincecum’s no-no.
I’m splitting hairs here, but I’m just going to look at the Buster Hugs - the Tim Lincecum one made me feel all the feelings (and yes, I recognize there was a Hector Sanchez Hug in there too but I’m choosing to disregard). Remember that whole “Buster and Timmy dislike each other” narrative? I felt like that no-hitter hug helped dispel some of those lingering rumors for me. So yeah, I’ll erase Matt Cain’s perfect game and it feels like my heart is being stabbed with needles, but these are the choices we have to make, okay?
2. Would you rather: Sign Bruce Bochy to a five-year deal or Have Bruce Bochy sign with the Dodgers?
Can you imagine Bruce Bochy with his arms around Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager just living his best life? There is something deep within my soul that just wants Bochy to retire a Giant but I also can’t stand the idea of ANOTHER long-term contract that may be based off of nostalgia. If you had to pick one, which would you prefer?

My thoughts: Arghhhhhhhhh. I think I must have a serious fear of commitment because yeah, I’m leaning towards sending Boch to Los Angeles. Bruce Bochy is one of those baseball minds that I’ll always admire and I think he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame BUT I think we can all agree that his effectiveness has waned a little over the past few seasons. It wouldn’t hurt to get new blood in the door and I certainly don’t want another five years of the same thing, even if that thing is Bruce Bochy. I’m sorry! Don’t hate me.
3. Would you rather: Have the DH in the NL or be forced to listen to Fox Sports call every game for the rest of your life?
Two things I despise a lot. Listening to the national broadcast, especially Fox Sports, feels like nails on a chalkboard for me (especially when I have to hear blatant favoritism towards the east coast). Also, this may be a tired take, but I can’t stand Joe Buck.
That being said, some of my favorite moments in baseball are watching pitchers hit (either really poorly or Madison Bumgarner-ing) so forcing the DH into my life can only be classified as “hella rude”. I dunno, tough call.

My thoughts: Draw? I’m thinking of the reality of never listening to anyone but national announcers for the rest of my baseball life and it’s sending me into a spiraling depression. I’m the type of person who syncs my radio to the national broadcast on TV because I don’t like change.
The DH in the NL is sacrilegious. I’m offended by the concept of it. I like the strategy involved in letting the pitcher hit for himself. I’m also still stuck on the idea that a professional baseball player should at the very least be able to be productive at the plate somehow. Am I asking for too much? (answer: yes, probably)
4. Would you rather: Eat and drink for free at AT&T Park for a season or Have a free membership to the Gotham Club for a season?
Gotta think about this one carefully. One gives me exclusive access to the park and the other, well - it’s like a baseball-themed buffet. Keep in mind you pay for food in the Gotham club but it’s pretty dope in there. You feel like you’re in a speakeasy and there’s something about watching the game from the field level behind right-field that is truly special. That being said, I think Garlic Fries are nearing the ten dollar mark and beers alone cost more than a full pizza from Domino’s sooooo... yeah.

My thoughts:
I gotta go for the all-you-can-eat option. Let’s face it - there’s no bad seat in the house so while the Gotham certainly has a fancy and exclusive feel to it, it may not be entirely conducive to watching the game (though I see the appeal of having a place that is warm when you get Candlestick-like weather). Also I like the idea of going up to the Crazy Crab stand and asking for ten sandwiches, to-go, just because I can.
Well, there you guys have it. Can’t wait to see what you guys pick and all the comments telling me how messed up I am for making you choose between stuff.
