We just debuted “McDeep Dive”, our new series that will spotlight one Giants player every day for a week. We’ll move backwards and forwards through time, look at on the field stuff, off the field stuff, and see if we can learn something new about them. Here’s part 3 of this week’s subject, Gorkys Hernández.
Since opening day of the 2018 season, Gorkys Hernandez has hit 11 home runs.
Since opening day of the 2017 season, Gorkys Hernandez has hit 11 home runs.
Since September 14, 2016, Gorkys Hernandez has hit 11 home runs.
However you look at it, this year has been a completely unforeseen breakout for Hernandez. Through his age-29 season, he had five career home runs. In early July of his age-30 season, he has 11 on the year.
On May 13, he had one home run. Since then, 10.
He’s second on the team in dingers, and his next one will give him as many as Buster Posey had all of last season.
It’s just weird. So let’s watch them all. I’m not going to give you context or commentary because, come on . . . they’re Gorkys Hernandez homers. Just enjoy them, in all their beautiful weirdness.
Here we go:
Homer Number One:
Homer Number Two:
Homer Number Three:
Homer Number Four:
MLB hates you and doesn’t want you to be able to do things like watch players who aren’t supposed to hit home runs hit home runs. But it exists. Somewhere. Maybe.
Homer Number Five:
Homer Number Six:
Homer Number Seven:
Homer Number Eight:
Homer Number Nine:
Homer Number Ten:
Homer Number Eleven:
Keep ‘em coming, Gorkys.
