The All-Star Game is in two weeks and voting for the starters ends this Thursday, July 5th at 11:59pm ET, so I’ll make this quick:
Last week:
- Buster Posey: 1,037,368
- Wilson Contreras: 945,347
- Kurt Suzuki: 880,707
- Yadier Molina: 584,054
- Yasmani Grandal: 539,782
This week:
- Buster Posey: 1,384,631
- Wilson Contreras: 1,240,132
- Kurt Suzuki: 1,174,470
- Yadier Molina: 913,149
- J.T. Realmuto: 818,925
Buster Posey expanded his lead week to week over the Cubs’ Wilson Contreras, however, 144,499 votes is not so large a lead that technology can’t overcome it. You have to consider that fans of every NL West team would love to see Posey lose the top spot right at the deadline, and Yadi stans would probably die for the same cause. Braves fans have proen technologically savvy enough to get over a million votes for Kurt Suzuki. And J.T. Realmuto’s surprise appearance at #5 suggests the Marlins fans might try to surround Posey with a digital death fog.
Don’t take Buster Posey’s spot for granted. Go out and vote. Vote hard. So hard.
Oh, and Brandon Crawford still has the 4th-highest vote total in the NL with 2,303,516, which is 1.14 million more votes than 2nd place shortstop candidate Dansby Swanson. So, yeah, vote Posey.
