This is your weekly reminder that the All Star Game is coming up and our players deserve to be there, dagnabit.
On the official ballot are Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Joe Panik, Brandon Crawford, Evan Longoria, Hunter Pence, Austin Jackson and Andrew McCutchen. However, you are free to write in whoever you want at any position. Unfortunately you can’t write in Pablo Sandoval for closer because we don’t get to vote on pitchers. Maybe some day.
Anyway, go vote. Five votes per day, 35 votes per email address.
I found this last week and I thought it was worth a share here. When Barry Bonds hit his 715th home run, for those that may not remember, Dave Flemming’s microphone dropped out for the call.
Here is a link to an interview Dave did with NPR the following day discussing the incident, which includes a transcription. Audio is below, unless it isn’t, in which case you should use a different web browser:
It’s hard not to feel sorry for him when you think back to that time. It was and still is a huge moment in Giants history, and to have your technology just fail you in the moment, that’s got to be one of the biggest disappointments of his career.
However, things got better for the Giants as an organization after that and Dave has gotten to be a part of some special games since then, so I’d like to think he’s probably gotten over it. But I would imagine, for him, that it will always be the call that got away.
