The bad news just keeps on coming, Giants fans.
Julian Fernández has a UCL sprain and has been placed on the disabled list to start the season. Alex Pavlovic reports that he will be seeking a second opinion on Thursday, but that it doesn’t sound good.
Bochy said Julian Fernandez has an elbow sprain, will get second opinion but doesn't sound good. He's the Rule 5 pick so he has to go on DL, Bochy said. Cannot be waived or offered back.

There’s also concern about lingering issues with Mark Melancon’s arm, which have kept him from pitching since the last of his back to back appearances on Friday. Andrew Baggarly suggests that they are not confident that he will make the Opening Day roster, but that he will play catch today and tomorrow to get a better sense of where he is at.
Something is up with Mark Melancon as well. Bochy won’t say what, but they are not 100 percent confident he will be on the active roster Thursday. He will play catch today and tomorrow.

Bruce Bochy mentioned this weekend that the bullpen was going to need to step up and be able to eat innings due to the injuries to Jeff Samardzija and Madison Bumgarner. Unfortunately, that’s looking to be more and more difficult as the season approaches. The lack of depth will likely require them to call back some of the pitchers who had already been optioned or reassigned.
Roster moves are likely to be revealed after tonight’s game.
