Never in the long history of the site have we ever had to do an overflow Blogging Practice thread, but here we are, doing it now. Today begins Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings. There’s sure to be plenty of news from Las Vegas about all the big trades and free agent signings other teams will be making.
As Giants fans, we’ll just have to watch from the sidelines as the franchise decides if it’s going to aim for 70 wins this season or jump into the new industry standard of being bad for five years to compete for two years to be bad again for five years. Will the gambits pay off? Well, teams with low payrolls rarely win the World Series, but that’s not going to stop the Tampa Bay Rays from trying to win with a 40-man of league minimum players.
We can only hope the spreadsheets win! They’ve worked so hard to drive down labor costs. The least we, as fans, can do is support the front offices without question and pay increasingly higher costs to be fans of our favorite baseball teams.
