Let’s play a game.
For real, let’s play a game of “Would you rather?”, San Francisco Giants Edition.
These are things I’ve genuinely pondered in my own brain and want to know what the good people of the McCovey Chronicles comments section think too. I thought it might be fun to put some head-scratchers out there and see where the majority of Giants fans fall in terms of their opinions.
Let’s do this.
- Would you rather: Trade Buster or BCraw?
I see more Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford jerseys in the ballpark than any other. It’s no surprise that this Gold Glove duo are beloved in San Francisco: Brandon Crawford with his homegrown talents on the field and Buster Posey with his Buster Posey-ness behind the plate.
It’s not a pleasant thought (and probably not a very feasible one as both hold full no-trade contracts) but if you had to pick one, which would it be?

My thoughts: It feels wrong to say either name, but if I HAD to, I would probably let Buster Posey go. The main reason being that I think you could probably get more back from Posey than you would Crawford. Based on the interest that J.T. Realmuto drew this winter, I would imagine other teams would salivate for an above average catcher and a talented and consistent hitter. It’s far easier to think of current elite shortstops in the game than elite catchers. That’s got to be worth something, right?
2. Would you rather: Listen to Jon/Dave for the rest of your life or Listen to Kruk/Kuip for the rest of your life?
I struggled with this one. I have to say, besides the whole three rings in five years thing, Giants fans are probably most lucky for the stellar broadcast team. Both sets of Giants’ voices have made me feel all the feelings. They’ve made me laugh until my stomach hurt. And they have all had iconic calls in Giants history. That being said, if you had to move forward with either Jon Miller/Dave Flemming or Mike Krukow/Duane Kuiper for the rest of your baseball fandom, who would you pick?

Would you rather: Listen to Jon/Dave or Kruk/Kuip for the rest of your life?
My thoughts:
Somehow this was even harder than the previous question for me. I would be happy with any or all of these guys calling all the baseball games I listened to for the rest of my life. That being said, I’m leaning slightly (and I do mean, slightly) in the direction of Jon/Dave for the following reasons:
- Dave and Jon’s hilarious, yet extremely sweet, rapport
- Dave’s very very sarcastic style, especially when the Giants are doing something incredibly dumb on the field
- Jon Miller’s Reuben Rivera call
- Two words: HELLO, KITTY
3. Would you rather: Ban the shift or use robo-umps?
Probably two of the most talked about trends in baseball (other than launch angle which I was this close to including) and honestly, two that I’ve had many internal discussions about weighing the pros and cons. They both simultaneously annoy me while still having the“well, it actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it” effect.
If it were up to you, what would you guys do?

My thoughts:
Listen, I’m not pro-shift but I am pro “don’t tell me what to do” and I hate the idea of banning a big strategic advantage in baseball that forces the game to evolve. That being said, I am so sick of watching hitters ground directly into a fielder’s glove so... there’s that.
On the other side of the coin, I also hate the idea of removing umps which also takes away one of my favorite parts of baseball: the umpire/coach yelling match. However, when I watch Joe West perform his one-man ump show, I also want to scream and shake my fist into the sky.
So what I’m saying is... neither? Either that or I flip a coin.
4. Would you rather: Watch the Dodgers win the World Series or see Madison Bumgarner in a Dodgers uniform?
The thought of either makes me feel physically ill. We’ve come pretty close to watching the Dodgers win a ring but mercifully it hasn’t happened (thanks, Astros and Red Sox). It hasn’t happened but it’s come close and that in itself is pretty nauseating.
On the other hand, the idea of seeing Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner in the same Dodger blue uniform is pretty heinous to me as well. It’s fun when they’re chummy on rivaling teams but I have absolutely no desire to see them as teammates.

My thoughts:
My main concern is which one of these has more trolling power from Dodgers fans. It’s not a great choice to make but I think I would probably choose the Dodgers winning the World Series, probably because I kind of feel like they will soon anyways.
Jeff Kent, Juan Uribe, Sergio Romo, Brian Wilson - all those guys who put on the Dodger Blue already cut me deep enough. Seeing Bumgarner as a Dodger would be twisting the knife. I’ll pass.
Thanks for playing guys! Can’t wait to see if I’m all alone in left field on all my opinions (probably.)
