Now, with poll attached!
Well, in what was a very predictable vote, Shaun Anderson takes #4 with 50% of the vote after nearly forcing a runoff at #3, while the other six players split the vote.
I have a feeling today’s vote will be very interesting. The runner ups were split between a pair of pitchers with good ceilings and questions about reaching them (Logan Webb and Melvin Adon), a young center fielder who has had a lot of hype but is coming off a down year (Alexander Canario), and the surprise votegetter being a first baseman-turned-left fielder who is near the bigs and offers power with some holes (Chris Shaw).
And I’m surprised by how Gregory Santos, after making the first group of nominees and was a hot topic in the comments, has fallen off, pulling in the least votes of the group.
One point of discussion from yesterday: The nomination of Ray Black. Due to some confusion about his qualifying status, some feel that he should be a part of this group of votes. Roger and I both thought about it, but here’s the decision: I’m not going to put him in yet. Despite the confusion on Monday, he was still very short of the nominating level, at half the recs of the lowest qualifiers. If he’d have been closer, I’d think we would add him.
Instead, Black will be available as part of Friday’s expected next round of nominating.
So, we’re off today. 6 Nominees, one winner. Are you going to make Roger run a 3-way runoff tomorrow?
As always, in the list below, the first name goes to the player’s BB-Ref page, the last name goes to Fangraphs.
