The Thirteenth Annual McCoven Awards: Meme of the Year

This was one of our most popular categories this year. I can't say I fully understand all of the memes, but I guess that is the nature of memes in general.

Nominees:

  • "i wouldn’t put this on the site if I didn’t think it was worth your time," nominated by Couche

I believe this was pulled from the comments section of another blog, per Couche: "We would meme the hell out of this if it was said here"

  • Complaining about chops, nominated by Couche

As we all know, there were a lot of changes to the site this year. We lost Grart, and gained a post requirement, which meant the amount of articles jumped up by a lot. For future readers, in the past we used to chop a conversation when a new post was published. This was....not ideal for the new format. And we heard about it. We found a workaround, but the resentment lingers for many, even prompting one new user this year to create the username "DFATheNewMcCoveyChronicles." We're touched.

  • "The ___ we made along the way," nominated by Casual Friday
This isn't exactly a new meme, but it is one that never seems to go out of style. I can't even remember the origins of this one, but it's something along the lines of "The real reward was the friends we made along the way" and has taken new life on an almost weekly basis.

  • Shut up, Wesley, nominated by bdimugno

We have a community member with the username "ShutUpWesley" which has spawned a meme of people either telling them to shut up, or posting Star Trek: TNG pictures and gifs. Because, naturally.

Before you vote:

I encourage anyone who would like to plead a case for any of these nominations to leave a comment, and I encourage anyone voting to look through those comments before voting. Posting examples of funny comments is much appreciated, please and thank you. I will be using your testimonials in the announcement of the winners.
