2017 MLB Draft: Giants pick 19th overall

Will the Giants go with a pitcher or a hitter? College kid or high school?

A reminder not to get too worked up over this.

The Giants will pick 19th in the 2017 MLB Draft, their highest pick since they selected Tyler Beede with the 14th-overall pick in 2014. Mock drafts have tied them to hitters and pitchers, from high school and from college, which means we have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen.

Which we never do anyway.

If you’re looking for a history of the #19 pick, you can find that here. A FAQ about the Draft is over here. There have been a bunch of mock drafts, and Brute was nice enough to collect most of them over here.

This isn’t the kind of draft — or draft position — that makes it easy to get super discouraged or encouraged by a specific pick. While I’d love it if a top-10 player fell all the way to the Giants, I’ve read at least 20 scouting reports that have made me think, “Ooooh, I want the Giants to pick that guy.” Which means unless the Giants go way off the board, I should be able to concoct an argument in favor of whomever they pick.

Looking at you, high school catcher. You stay away. Unless you’re really good.

You can use this as the living open draft thread. To the the future! Excelsior!
