Hello! After spending several hours, if not hundreds or thousands, on this page, suddenly it’s different. This displeases you, as any change to something familiar is a reminder that you are a meat robot who is forever one breath closer to death. However, this is the new McCovey Chronicles, and you will get used to it.

I’m already used to it, and I like it.

You can read the reasoning behind the changes here, and you can read an introduction here, but it’s not too complicated. It’s been a few years, and the design didn’t feel as fresh as it once was. More importantly, though, was the coding and load time behind it. More than half of the traffic to this site is mobile, and load times are more important than ever.

Yeah, you can’t quit me. None of you can. You’re all stuck. And it took me exactly two days to get used to it on I have a lot more front-page layouts to play with, including one that makes sure that the hard work from Roger, Bryan, Sami, Doug, and others doesn’t get pushed off the page on a busy news day. I’m a fan.

There will be bugs. People will be watching this thread for reports of the bugs. Report the bugs, if you can.

But I’m excited. As someone who’s been around since the days when the site looked like this ...

... I get super excited about these changes and geek out. So welcome to the new McCovey Chronicles! Get super excited with me.

Spoiler: He came back! And played another two years! What a world that was.
