Joe Panik's MRI reveals nothing unusual

Inflammation is the diagnosis, not ejectedvertebraeoisis, as most of us assumed. The team is hoping he'll be back when his DL stint is up.

Earlier in the day, Buster Olney made me throw up into a paper bag.

See, I'm about to do it again! And there's a 10-cent surcharge when you throw up into bags around here.

Just the idea of the Giants parting with prospects to acquire a broken veteran -- and I know I was excited about him last year, so shut up -- is unpalatable. Don't worry, though: It's also unnecessary. It looks like Panik's back problems are merely inflammation, and the team hopes to have him back when his turn on the DL is up in two weeks.

Utley as a super-pinch-hitter, taking over for Ehira Adrianza, considering that both Matt Duffy and Panik can play short in a pinch? Well, okay, but ...

Sorry! The main point of this is to let you know that Joe Panik is probably okay. There will be no premature end to his All-Star season, and there will be no wailing and gnashing of teeth. In the meantime, enjoy the stylings of Kelby Tomlinson, who is hitting 1.000/1.000/1.000 on the season and will probably keep that up.
