Kelby Tomlinson's hadn't been doing extremely well at Triple-A, batting just .257 over his eight games in Sacramento. His five-hit game changes that streak pretty easily. Jarrett Parker picked up his first home run since June 8th, the game before his major league promotion. Over the last four games, he's not only hit 7-for-16, but has also drawn 5 walks. Carlos Triunfel raised his average up to .269, but only has a .290 on-base percentage to top it, with just five walks and 38 strikeouts.
Clayton Blackburn got burned by a pair of errors for two unearned runs, but had a solid game otherwise. After giving up eight hits today and seven more in his previous start, Blackburn has given up a .293 batting average to hitters. Erik Cordier has gone nine straight outings without allowing a run, back to June 12th. All four of his saves have come in that time, starting on the 12th.
And first up in the ugly-patriotic-jersey-palooza is:

Half barber-shop pole, half Betsy Ross on Project Runway. Give the RiverCats points for being loud on Fireworks night. I haven't heard if any dogs in the area were scared by the jersey alone.

Derek Law | 0.2 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.59 |
Hunter Cole's home run was just his first in Double-A, as he hit his first week at the level. It was his 7th home run overall this season, with the other six coming with San Jose. Ricky Oropesa had been going through an extended drought, going 1-for-20 over eight games, but he picked up hits in his last two games before today's three-hit game. He has been more aggressive though, picking up five strikeouts over the last three games. Myles Schroder knocked in two runs from the leadoff spot, giving him 19 in 50 games this season. Mitch Delfino's home run gave him two on the season. He had 12 in 2014, and 13 in 2013.
Joe Biagini had his first start to go extended innings in the last three games. After going a season-high eight innings on June 16th, Biagini had been unable to get out of the fourth inning in his last two starts. Crick had his first appearance without a walk all season. Actually, without a hit, as well. Sure, it was only an inning, and most of his appearances have been starts, but it's still a first for him this year. Derek Law gave up a walk, a passed ball, and a single to start the ninth, but he struck out the next two batters. He got the next batter to pop into foul ground, but a dropped catch extended the inning. Three runs came around, all unearned. Law now has 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings this season.
Okay, Jersey time (sorta):

No frontal views on Twitter, sorry. But notice the star-spangled digits, and what appears to be a special hat. Also, take note of what passes for rain in Virginia. That's just rubbing it in our drought-filled faces. Back on topic, this appears to be the front of the jersey (image from 2013):
At least they have a red jersey, so the patriotic theme isn't too out of place. But...oh my goodness that's not very legible. And so....diagonal.

Dan Slania, BS, 3, L, 2-4 | 2.0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2.84 |
San Jose lost a real back-and-forth game, after having taking a 6-5 lead with four runs in the 7th, giving up two runs in the eighth. The blown save went on Dan Slania, his 3rd of the season in 15 opportunities. Jason Forjet, had a rough start, giving up 13 hits in 5.1 innings. He had given up only 18 in 29 innings before this game, and still has limited batters to a .238 average.
Daniel Carbonell had a .367 OPS in Double-A, but he continues to prove he's probably too good for San Jose, with his fourth multi-hit game in nine played since coming down. Ryder Jones appears to have picked up the home run bug from Angel Villalona, hitting his first home run since May 28th, giving him five on the season. Jones has hit only .231 in the last ten games, however. Angel Villalona didn't hit a home run today, but he got another hit and is up to .281 as an average.
San Jose held a silent auction for these jerseys. I'm not entirely sure they planned for it to be silent, or there were just no bids...

Congratulations, people. You have made me nostalgic for the subtle, nuanced "Turn Ahead the Clock" MLB jerseys.
Augusta lost to Kannapolis, 1-0

Raymundo Montero, L, 3-4 | 1.1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1.87 |
Each team in this game allowed only four baserunners, but one got around in the ninth to sink the GreenJackets. Matt Gage was nearly the match of Annapolis starter Yenoy Almonte. Gage went only 7.2 innings (to Almonte's 8.2), and gave up three hits (to Almonte's two). But Gage didn't walk anyone (Almonte walked one), and struck out six (the same as Almonte). Raymond Montero took the loss, but he has been mostly successful this season. He has 68 strikeouts against 11 walks in 53 innings.
As you can imagine, the offense had little to talk about. Jeremy Sy got on base two times out of Augusta's four times. His hit extended a five-game hitting streak. Johneshwy Fargas got on base from getting hit, but turned it into his 39th stolen base of the season. He's third in the South Atlantic league, 14 behind leader Jorge Mateo of the Charleston RiverDogs (Yankees).
And, have some deja vu!

"Hey, jersey designer."
"Yeah?"
"Remember those awesome Richmond Flying Squirrels patriotic jerseys?"
"Yeah?"
"Remember how awesome it was to see the Stars and Stripes inside the letter R for their logo?
"Yeah?"
"Well what if we took another team's logo, made it that same small size..."
"Yeah?"
"And then we took a long word in that tiny logo, and put the stars and stripes in THAT word. Like one inch high, three inches wide words, star-spangled! Don't you think that would look awesome!"
"Uh....yeah?"
"REALLY? Oh, and then, we could change their name, from GreenJackets to the RedJackets! All in the name of new jersey sales on July 4th!!!!!"
"..."
"What?"
"Paul Revere hates you."
Apparently, the logo designer for the hat loved the idea anyway.

Gomez is batting .339 this season, with the third-straight two-hit game. Ronnie Jebavy had another multi-hit game from the leadoff spot, and got his first double of the season in his ninth game. Jose Vizcaino picked up his second multi-hit game of his career.
Logan Webb had his best start of the season, giving up a season-low one earned run. He's walked seven with nine strikeouts in 19 innings so far this season. Eric Sim made his longest appearance of the season so far, extending out to 2.1 innings.
Okay, you know you want this jersey!

If straight horizontal lines across a shirt make you look fat, what do wavy horizontal lines on your midsection do? They make you glad this wasn't the jersey worn by Angel Villalona, that's what.
The AZL Giants had the 4th of July off.
No ugly uniforms for you! Or them! Jalen Miller has risen to the top of the AZL Giants' batting average race, patting .414 in seven games, and the highest OPS at .933 (out of players with as many games). However, so far this season, no one has more than one home run. Dillon Dobson, though, has three triples. Only two other players even have one.
The DSL Giants had a game scheduled for the 4th, but no score posted as of the morning of the 5th.
This will be updated later. Don't expect ugly jerseys. They don't play in the U.S., so it's probably only a 40% chance they celebrate the 4th of July.
Edit: The DSL Game's box score is in the Minor Lines for July 5th. So go click over there! It's not like McCovey Chronicles is really in need of the extra ad revenue...probably.
