Power, Power, POWER on display on the mound at San Jose last night. This is too much for just a single pitch, let's take an extended view at Ray Black's night:
That video sadly stops just a few seconds short, because Ray Black's expression of triumph on the 6th K was really something to behold.
HIGHLIGHTS: Ray Black with as scintillating a 3 inning start as you can imagine. Ricky Oropesa reached finals of EL All Star HR derby.
PCL All Stars lost to IL All Stars, 4-3
Adam Duvall played the whole game at 1b, going 0 for 3 with a BB and 2 Ks.
Check out Adam Duvall getting congratulated after his 3rd HR in MiLB's Photos of the Week! There's also Ryder Jones diving for a ball at 3b. There's some terrific photogs haunting the minor league fields of America!

Eastern League All Star game ended 4-4
in an interesting twist, the East (Richmond is West) won the game on an extra innings HR derby
In the game all four Squirrels played but none had much of a starring role. Rando Moreno and Ricky Oropesa went 0 for 5 collectively, though Moreno did drive in the West's first run on a ground out. Joe Biagini started and gave up 2 hits and a run in his single inning, while Kelvin Marte threw a 3 up 3 down inning.
In the normally scheduled pre-game HR derby, Ricky Oropesa put on a show!
All I can say about Ricky Orepesa's HR's so far is #WOWWW pic.twitter.com/lzRkM1vd5x

Ricky didn't win the AA HR derby but he made the final round. Seems he was a little tuckered by then, but let's watch the round that got him into the finals. Hard to tell but by watching the crowd I do think he hit one out of the RF pavilion in the final round:
Altoona's Da Gamache just won Eastern League HR Derby but the big power belonged to runner up Ricky Oropesa of Richmond.

Electric beginning to Ray Black's start tonight: six batters faced, six swinging strikeouts. FB sitting 97-100, top 101.
— Joe Ritzo (@JoeRitzo) July 16, 2015
That's just unfair! Black strikes out batter touching 100 & then 83! Nasty!
— Julie (@phibear35) July 16, 2015
Forget the final score, this game was all about Ray Black doing his thing. He K'd the first 6 batters of the game swinging, and had 8 K's after three (one was called). He tired after three, having hit his season high in pitches, and opened the 4th by giving up back to back HRs, before getting his 9th and final K of the night and walking off the mound to a music montage with Homer excitedly scribbling an epic poem behind him.
After Black left, some baseball stuff happened that was less interesting, including Jake Smith having his toughest outing in quite some time. But talking about all that just makes my Ray Black fastball buzz go away, so I'm not gonna do it! Here, have a Christian Arroyo highlight:
Ok, now more Black. Friend of ML phibear got some great sideview shots of Black in the bullpen before the game so you can see his extension and blazing fast arm action. Let's end on that:

The bulk of the Greenjackets offense in this game came from the bottom of the lineup as Jeremy Sy and Will Callaway both had 3 hits and RBI:
Sy and Callaway are both well to old for the Sally of course, at 25 apiece, and at this point look like just A ball filler. Dylan Davis returned from a brief DL stint and knocked a double in four trips, but he K'd in the other 3. And Chuckie Jones doubled for his first hit of the year.
Pat Young had an excellent start, filling in at the last minute for Chris Johnson and garnering 7 Ks in 7 one-run innings.
Yoan Moncada HR'd for the third consecutive game, an inside-the-park HR off of Carlos Diaz. And if you check out the highlight of the HR below, you'll see that while Johneshwy Fargas is capable of fantastic defense, he also still has things to learn. Moncada could well have been held to a double had Fargas made the decision to pull up and play the wall. Instead he just continued running after the ball even after it was likely apparent he wouldn't get to it, got himself too far into the wall and put himself into a position where he couldn't defend the carom. These are the types of things you learn in the minors:

The Volcanoes won it in dramatic walk off style, as Ronnie Jebavy's only hit of the game was a 9th inning HR to break the 4-4 tie. Let's hear a little from Jebavy in the Volcanoes TV game wrap, which features the traditional walk off hijinks from Ronnie's teammates:
Prior to Jebavy's walk-off, Chris Shaw had tagged his 3rd HR of the year. The Giants supp rounder is now hitting .291/.371/.455 is his pro debut.
Meanwhile, the Giants past two 4th round picks both appeared on the mound. Logan Webb is most definitely a work in progress as a pitcher, but he's putting together solid outings in the NWL so far. The velo's not translating into a ton of missed bats so far, but he's mostly limiting hard contact. Last night he surrendered just two unearned runs. Mac Marshall then threw two scoreless innings though he did walk 2 of his 8 batters and hit another.
'14 14thR pick 2B Kevin Rivera(19Y) promoted to SKV from the AZL. Lost playing time with Beltre/Miller around. Hit .317/.333/.439 in 42PA.
— GiantsProspectTalk (@giantsprospects) July 15, 2015
One guy who got lost in the playing time shuffle in Scottsdale was '14 draftee Kevin Rivera, a kid out of the Puerto Rican Academy. Prior to Beltre showing up he had been playing regularly and playing well, so glad to see him get moved up to the NWL and see if he can get more time on the field, though fellow 2014 pick Richard Amion has been manning the spot regularly so far.

The DSL Giants also walked it off, in extra innings. Six walks and a HB helped the Giants turn 7 hits into 7 runs, despite 11 Ks on the game. Their game winning rally consisted of a single, a SB, and then three straight walks. Only two Giants managed two hits, Robinson Madrano and Marco Guzman. They also combined for two of the team's three XBH with a triple and double respectively. Sandro Fabian's double was the team's only other XBH.
Remi Rodriguez with his 5th blown save turned into his 3rd Pitcher Win. That's some nice Win vulturing there Reymi!
At 29-11 the Giants are tied for the best record in the DSL. They lead the league in HRs (22), and hits. They are second in runs scored (275) and 5th in SB (79). They're 2nd in BA, 3rd in SLG, and 4th in OPS. They're also 4th in the league in ERA (2.86), have the league's lowest WHIP (1.17) and the most strikeouts from their pitching staff (366). Power plays in baseball, and leading your league in HRs and Pitcher Ks is a nice little show of power. As I've noted before, the team's performance is particularly notable because it's all around probably the youngest DSL roster the Giants have ever fielded. It will be interesting to see if this group develops any real players down the line.

Second half begins in earnest as we're now back to a full 7 game schedule. Today's games include Keury Mella's return from the Future's Game. Richmond doesn't have a starter listed as of yet, but hopefully we'll see Tyler Beede on the mound as well.
Time to go after some playoff berths guys!
