It's time once again for the ever-awesome minor league Photos of the Week, this edition featuring an actual flying Flying Squirrel (and another Giants farmhand as well)!

Richmond also makes a brief appearance on the Minor League "Plays of the Week" page, but on the wrong side of the highlight (as Mike Yastrzemski nails Rando Moreno at home plate):
HIGHLIGHTS: D.J. Snelten threw 6.1 one-run innings. Mark Reyes threw 6 innings without allowing an earned run.
Sacramento had a scheduled offday.
They begin a 4-game home series vs. the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) today.
Richmond lost at Erie (Tigers), 5-2
losing the three game series, 1-2

As mentioned before, in the bus leagues they play morning getaway games beginning 10:30 or 11:00 am. As near as I can tell, the goal of these games is to be the team that is sleep walking through the game the least. On this particular day, that team was not Richmond. The Squirrels were not only unable to mount any kind of offensive effort, scattering just 7 singles (and a walk) through the game vs. 7 Ks, but they also completely sabotaged the effort of SP Joe Biagini by making 4 errors. Three of those came in the decisive 5th inning leading to 4 unearned runs that more or less ended the competitive portion of this game. The E's came from Oropesa (missed catch on PO), Delfino (throwing error), Carbonell (throwing error) and even the normally sure handed Kelby Tomlinson (fielding error). On the positive side, Williamson was once again manning RF after a few days resting the arm at DH.
It was the kind of game in which a bloop to CF makes the highlight reel:

To sum up: baseball was not meant to be played before noon. Hop on the bus, Gus, and come back better tomorrow night, when for the third consecutive weekend, Richmond will begin a series with the Bowie Baysox.

Another night where the Giants did just enough offensively, as they scratched out three single runs, and took a 3-2 win on a walk off. The game winning event? Ah, that brings us to one of our favorite bits here on Minor Lines: The Continuing Adventures of Minor League TV Crews:
<iframe src='http://www.milb.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=124633883&width=600&height=336&property=milb' width='600' height='336' frameborder='0'>Your browser does not support iframes.</iframe>
Yes, as you could tell from Joe Ritzo's commentary, the winning run DID score in there somewhere on a PB. This was fitting as Modesto had tied the game in the top of the 9th thanks to two Dan Slania WP. The walk off score was set up by Ty Ross' second double of the night, which gave Ross the best hitting line for SJ. Ryan Lollis was the only other Giant to reach base twice. On the whole, the team managed 8 hits, including 4 doubles, 1 BB, and 6 Ks. The Cole-Slater tandem had an unusually quiet night as they went a collective 1 for 8 with a double, while Ryder Jones continued his May slump, which has his OPS down now to .705.
On the mound, D.J. Snelten had his best start as a pro. This was his longest outing of the year, and tied for his lowest Runs allowed. That one run he gave up was the product of his final two batters faced, as with one out in the 7th he allowed a single and a double, and then Gardeck came in to clean up the inning for him. This was also the first game this year in which Snelten has not allowed a BB. Slania had a sloppy save attempt as mentioned before, moving a leadoff single around the bases on two WP. The tying run scored on an infield single with two outs.
You may ask yourself, what is the sound of 103? Why it's Ray Black, talking to Joe Ritzo, of course! And saying delightful things like "I won't lie to you, I get a little cocky out there sometimes!"

The slide continues for Augusta, which was 3-hit in this one and shutout for the second consecutive game and fourth time in their past seven games (all losses). The losing streak has now dropped them to a season worst six games below .500.
Oddly, all three of their hits in this game were doubles, all coming from Arenado and Garcia who were also the only two Greenjackets to reach base twice (Garcia reaching once on a HBP). Arenado, in his first full season, is showing pretty decent ability to put the ball in play, as his 16% K rate is one of the lowest on the team (only the dear departed Fargas and Travious Relaford are lower among the regulars). The 5% BB rate suggests a "See Pitch/Swing" approach which may not be doing him favors, but clearly given his two rookie ball seasons he's starting out showing some hitting skills to build on.
Mark Reyes had another fine outing ruined by poor support as both his offense and his defense failed him. The one run he allowed reached base on a fielding error from Arenado (his 10th).
Augusta returns home tonight where apparently seven nights of fun, and hopefully a run or two, await their excellent fanbase:

One thing they will definitely have in that homestand is their first glimpse of Yoan Moncada, as the even more stacked Greenville Drive will come to town on Monday. So that's something to look forward to.
Another short night tonight, as Richmond gets a scheduled off day, while SJ finishes their series with an afternoon game. Scheduled starters are Coello, Agosta, and Coonrod.
Non-Giants note: Three years ago Styker Trahan was a 1st round pick for Arizona. Today on BP, he has one of the worst scouting reports I can remember seeing for such a recent first rounder, with a "Realistic Role" given as "30-Org Player." OOF. When 1st round picks go bad...
