Thanks again to Brute for yesterday's assist. And I totally agree with him that the inspirational sight of Brian Stow throwing out the first pitch was the day's highlight, so even a day late let's go ahead and make that today's video highlight:
HIGHLIGHTS: Andrew Susac reached base 4 times with 2 doubles. Kelby Tomlinson had 3 hits and a SB.
Sacramento won at Salt Lake City (Angels) 5-3

After splitting a four game set with Las Vegas, the River Cats hit the road for the first time this year, to newly humidor-utilizing Salt Lack City and took a crisp 5-3 victory from the Bees that represented the organization's only victory on the night. Sacramento got offensive production throughout the lineup as they put 14 runners on base and had 5 XBH. Andrew Susac had a big game, reaching base 4 times, including three hits and two doubles. The one guy in the Sacramento lineup who's really struggling early in the season continues to be Juan Perez, who's now 3 for 30 with 9 Ks on the year. But back to Susac, is this a sight that will be coming to SF soon?
Or how about this?
Cody Hall had his second consecutive 3 inning appearance as the club seems to be making a concerted effort to stretch him out. Hall's outing was decisive as he entered the game with Sacramento trailing 3-1 and shut SLC down until the 9th as his teammates mounted their comeback.
RIchmond lost at Reading (Phillies), 7-1

The Flying Squirrels also took to the road for the first time, but with less success. Richmond hitters were shut down by Nola, the 7th overall pick in last year's draft. Richmond had only 8 baserunners on the day, 6 of whom were Kelby Tomlinson and Mitch Delfino. Delfino had the team's only walk and one of only two xbh. Daniel Carbonell continues to struggle, now 6 for 32 with 13 Ks and 1 BB. Rando Moreno is hitting a blistering 4 for 8 on the season. Jack Snodgrass had one of his worst starts of his career and was uncharacteristically out of the strike zone. Reading's leadoff hitter, Roman Quinn, was #5 on BA's first Hot Sheet of the season and continued that, reaching base 3 times and stealing 3 bases.
Here's the Reading game recap, which is just a bunch of Phillies knocking in runs and stuff, but its a good amount of game action for those who'd like to see:
to make up for that here's the Squirrels highlight of the day (spoiler: it's a groundout):

The Little Giants have now lost 5 of their last 6 games and have committed an astonishing 17 errors in their previous 5 games, with no fewer than 2 errors in any of them. Their offense managed only 7 baserunners in this game (vs. 9 strikeouts) with no XBH. Brian Ragira continues a very tough stretch to begin the season, now 4 for 32 with 10 Ks and 1 BB. He has however, been doing something Fla-Giant called for last year, starting in LF for the 4th time this year. San Jose only had two baserunners reach 2b in the game.
Keury Mella had a rough second outing. After skating through a little trouble in the 1st inning, walking the leadoff hitter who cam around to score, he had a smooth 2nd and 3rd. But he ran into trouble again in the 4th which started with a double to deep CF. After an error by Ryder Jones (3), Mella hit former 2nd round pick (and teammate of Ragira and Austin Slater) Austin Wilson to load the bases. Two sharp singles and a SF plated 4 in the inning, which could have been worse had RF Ryan Lollis not cleverly thrown behind a runner on one of the run scoring singles, getting him rounding 1b too far. Jeff Soptic relieved Mella in the 5th and mixed his usual assortment of BBs and Ks through five outs.

Greenjackets offense managed only four hits on the night, with Cole's double being the only XBH, however they did have 6 more baserunners via BB or HBP. Still they struggled to score runs on this night, which began with a rain delay and had some sloppy, wet conditions.
The score doesn't really indicate the game here, which was a tight 2-2 battle entering the 8th when Encinosa, who had pitched two clean innings, fell apart. Encinosa continues to struggle with the Sally. Augusta may have the weakest bullpen in the system. Here's David Lee's scouting nights on the night, showing a heavy Rome slant as David's affinity for the Braves asserts itself.
Hope for better tonight, when Kyle Crick, D.J. Snelten, and Sam Coonrod take the mound. Crick matches up with Reading's Jesse Biddle in the most prospecty pitching matchup of the night.
