Rate the Giants defenders

For science.

Thearon W. Henderson

Every year, Tom Tango collects fan-based evaluations on players, and he aggregates them into a "wisdom of crowds" kind of defensive ranking. You can find past Giants rankings on FanGraphs.

It's time for you to participate in this democratic process. Go here and vote.

The most important thing to remember is that you're not voting for players relative to their peers at the same position. You're comparing Buster Posey's first step to Billy Hamilton's first step, Brandon Hicks to Michael Morse. Other than that, vote away.

Because I don't want to influence your vote -- "That idiot voted what? Oh, I'll fix that." -- I will put the screenshot of my vote at the bottom of this post, below a series of delightful Hunter Pence pictures.

Still with me? Good. Here are my ratings:

The only fielder I pay attention to before the pitch is thrown is Brandon Crawford. Even though we've seen a lot of Buster Posey at first, I still didn't know how to rate his first step and such. I didn't feel comfortable rating anyone with fewer games played than Joe Panik.

I worry that I give out too many averages compared to fairs, but I figure that will be the point. Some dink will come along and give out too many fairs.

Feel free to yell at me in the comments.
