Thursday highlights from the Giants' farm: Gary Brown homered among four hits, and Ty Blach had 7.0 scoreless IP.  Also notable, Jarrett Parker homered and doubled.

AAA: Fresno defeated Tacoma 11-4
(after leading 5-0 entering the 6th inning)

Fresno: CF Gary Brown: 4 for 6, HR, 2B, SO, 2 SB
Fresno: C Hector Sanchez: 2 for 6, HR, SO
Fresno: RF Jarrett Parker: 2 for 5, HR, 2B, 3 SO

Fresno: SP Jason Berken: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 7 K--1 HR

Brown led off the game with his 9th HR and finished the game with four hits.  He also achieved his 30th SB.  Also homering for the Grizzlies were Sanchez, playing in his second rehab game, and Parker, playing in his second PCL game.

Berken had a solid start.  He has a 4.72 ERA in eighteen starts.

AA: Richmond lost to Binghamton 3-0
(allowing all three runs in the 8th and 9th innings)

Richmond: 3B Mario Lisson: 2 for 4, SO

Richmond: SP Ty Blach: 7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K--1 WP

Lisson had two of the Flying Squirrels' five hits (all singles) as their lone hitter to reach base twice.

Blach enjoyed perhaps his best start this year.  The 7.0 scoreless IP improved his ERA to 3.25.

A+: San Jose defeated Lancaster 2-1

San Jose: RF Chuckie Jones: 1 for 3, HR, BB, SO, SB

San Jose: SP Nick Vander Tuig: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K--1 HR, 1 WP

Jones had his 12th HR and 12th SB.

Vander Tuig had a very good start in his second Cal League start this year.

A-: Augusta defeated Savannah 10-9 (10 innings)
(after rallying with six runs in the 8th inning)

Augusta: 2B Jeremy Sy: 1 for 4, HR, BB, SO

Augusta: SP Chase Johnson: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 6 K--2 WP
Augusta: RP Luis Castillo: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 4 K

Sy and Lofton hit their 12th and 2nd HRs.

Johnson was prone to the big inning tonight, with the Sand Gnats scoring five runs in the 1st inning and four runs in the 6th inning.  Castillo struck out four of his five batters.

ssA: Salem-Keizer defeated Boise 9-5

Jones connected for his 1st NWL HR.  Cole had three hits in his sixth NWL game.

Making a rehab start, Mella pitched a scoreless 1st inning.  Gonzalez, the normal starter, had a career-high 8 K.  McVey had 4 K in 2.0 perfect IP for his 2nd pro save.

R: Scottsdale defeated RangGGGers 4-0 in game 1
(completing game begun on July 3rd)

Scottsdale: PR-CF Daniel Carbonell: 1 for 2, HR
Scottsdale: LF Brennan Metzger: 3 for 4

Scottsdale: SP Rodolfo Martinez: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

Carbonell hit his 1st pro HR, in a game that officially counts as his pro debut.  Metzger's three singles accounted for nearly half of the rookie Giants' seven hits.

Martinez began the game on July 3rd and then resumed the game today.  He faced just one batter over the minimum in 4.0 scoreless IP.

R: Giants defeated Rangers 3-1 (7 innings) in game 2

Scottsdale: C John Riley: 1 for 2, HR, HBP, SO

Scottsdale: SP Tyler Beede: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Scottsdale: RP Reyes Moronta: 1.0 IP, 2 K

Riley connected for his 2nd HR.

Beede delivered 2.0 scoreless IP in his second pro appearance.  Moronta had 2 K in a perfect 7th inning for his 3rd save.

DSL: Gigantes lost to Mets1 5-3

Dominican: LF Richard Rodriguez: 2 for 4, BB
Dominican: SP Prebito Reyes: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

Rodriguez continues to be an on-base machine for the Gigantes with his .479 OBP.  The 18-year-old Reyes has allowed just 2 ER over his last four starts, improving his ERA to 3.67 through a dozen starts.
