Brandon Belt and his wife Haylee had a son yesterday! Good for them.
That's it, no joke. Just good for them. They're great.
How to Catch a Foul Ball: Citi Field, At&T Field, Safeco Field
I have never caught a foul ball in my life. They tend to avoid me, as if I'm just one guy out of 40,000 and it would be unreasonable for me to expect to catch one, and also I don't have good hands and foul balls are scary and I would probably hide behind the nearest tall person. So when you take all that into account, and add in the fact that some years I have gone to as many as eight games, it's shocking a foul ball has never come my way. Or at least, it was shocking. I don't think I've ever sat in section 101. I am a failure as a foul ball hunter. I have never felt so ashamed.
Duane Kuiper's Only MLB Home Run
Articles about Duane Kuiper's home run never get old. Do you have any idea how bad an article about it would have to be for me to not link it? It would have to, like, posit that Steve Stone was in on it the whole time because childhood vaccines allowed him to become an incarnation of Xenu, who also shot his ray gun from the grassy knoll at the moon to make that flag wave because even my dumb hypotheticals don't allow for the possibility of the moon landing being faked.
Pity the Pull Hitter
If you remember when Brandon Belt was actually playing baseball this year, teams had started to shift on him pretty frequently. If you're like me, you grumbled to yourself "Why doesn't he just bunt" every time, realizing even as you said it that it was a silly idea that wasn't necessarily part of Belt's skill set, and that it probably isn't as easy to do as everyone assumes it is because if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Then, a couple times, Belt would actually try to bunt, and it would roll foul, and you would be momentarily chastened before thinking the same thing in Belt's next AB.
I am a rational sports fan.
What Is The Greatest TOOTBLAN Of The TOOTBLAN Era?
Am I partial to the Pirates' double TOOTBLAN? Of course. Not only did it come against the Giants, but I was at that game. However, as an objective obsever, can I truly say in my heart it's better than the Segura highlight? The answer to that, of course, is yes, because anything that involves something good happening for the Giants is superior to anything that doesn't.
The Woman Who Struck Out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig
What a great story. I sure hope no well-known baseball writer casually dismisses it due to his own biases!
