Thursday's most notable from the Giants' farm: Angel Villalona tripled among three hits.

AAA: Fresno defeated Tacoma 6-5
(scoring five runs over the 8th and 9th innings)

Fresno: 3B Adam Duvall: 2 for 4, 2B, HBP
Fresno: 2B Brandon Hicks : 2 for 4, HR, 2B, SO

Fresno: SP Jason Berken: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K--1 HR

Hicks' 5th HR was a three-run, two-out blast in the 8th inning.  Both Hicks and Duvall had two hits for the Grizzlies.

The 30-year-old Berken presumably finished his first year in the Giants' organization.   He had a 4.64 ERA in 132.0 IP.

AA: Richmond lost to Altoona 3-2
(allowing the winning run in the 9th inning)

Richmond: 1B Angel Villalona: 3 for 4, 3B, SO

Richmond: SP Chris Stratton: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

Villalona had his second straight three-hit game, including his 3rd triple.

In his fifth upper minors start, Stratton established new highs with both 6.0 IP and 7 K.  His component stats in those five starts include 29 H, 12 BB, 2 HR and 18 K in 23.0 IP.

A+: San Jose lost to Lake Elsinore 8-5
(allowing five runs in the 1st inning and three runs in the 7th inning)

San Jose: SS Brandon Bednar: 2 for 4, HR, E

San Jose: SP Pat Young: 0.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
San Jose: RP Jorge Bucardo: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 K

Bednar connected for his 4th HR in the Cal League.  He has hit .249/.302/.350 in 177 AB since his promotion.

Young finished his first full season with the shortest start of pro career.  He threw just 25 pitches (16 strikes) in 0.2 IP.  Bucardo allowed his lone inherited runner to score but otherwise contributed 4.1 scoreless IP in long relief.

A-: Augusta lost to Savannah 3-0

Augusta: LF Scott Price: 1 for 3, HBP, 2 SB

Augusta: SP Robert Ramer: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Price was the lone GreenJacket to reach base twice.

Ramer presumably finished his season on a high note.  Not allowing an earned run, he improved his ERA to 4.73.

ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Spokane 5-3

Salem-Keizer: SS Christian Arroyo: 2 for 4, BB, SO, E
Salem-Keizer: 2B Travious Relaford: 2 for 3, BB

Salem-Keizer: SP Ethan Miller: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K--1 WP

Both Volcanoes' middle infielders, Arroyo and Relaford, reached base three times.  After a sub-.500 OPS in 118 in the Sally League to begin the year, Arroyo has hit .328/.369/.466 in 238 in the NWL.

Miller presumably finished his summer with 4.60 ERA in fourteen starts.

R: Giants defeated White Sox 6-4

Scottsdale: DH Brennan Metzger: 2 for 3, 2 BB, SB

Scottsdale: SP Luis Pino: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K--1 HR, 1 HB
Scottsdale: RP Stetson Woods: 2.0 IP, 3 K
Scottsdale: RP Caleb Smith: 1.0 IP, 2 K

Metzger reached base four times, raising the 24-year-old's OBP above .450.

After Pino allowed 4 ER over the first three innings, Woods and Smith combined for 5 K in 3.0 perfect IP over the next three innings.

DSL: Gigantes lost to Rangers1 8-1
(losing the first game in the best-of-three series)

Dominican: 1B Anthony Gomez: 1 for 2, 2 BB
Dominican: SP Eduin Villa: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--2 HB

Gomez reached base three times, while the Gigantes managed just two hits (both singles).  Villa, who had one start among eleven appearances during the regular season, got the start today.  He and his next two relievers combined to plunk five batters in 7.1 IP.
