Saturday highlights from the Giants' farm: Clayton Blackburn and Steven Messner combined to face just four batters over the minimum in 15.0 IP in their starts, and both Brian Ragira and Chuckie Jones homered while reaching base three times.

AAA: Fresno lost to Colorado Springs 10-0

Fresno: P Kelvin Marte: 1 for 2

Fresno: SP Kelvin Marte: 6.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K--2 HR, 1 WP
Colorado Springs: SP Chad Bettis: 8.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

The Grizzlies managed just four hits (all singles), including one by their starting pitcher.

Marte allowed a new season-high 6 R, while the 10 H matched a season-high.  Bettis, who entered the year ranked as one of the Rockies' top prospects and has made 21 relief appearances for the Rockies this year, delivered 8.0 scoreless IP in his third start this year.  He threw just 84 pitches (54 strikes).

AA: Richmond lost to Portland 1-0 (10 innings)

Richmond: C Eliezer Zambrano: 2 for 4

Richmond: SP Clayton Blackburn: 8.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 11 K

Zambrano had two of the Flying Squirrels' four hits (all singles).  He has a .283 AVG.

Blackburn had perhaps the best start of his pro career, facing just three batters over the minimum in 8.0 scoreless IP and achieving a career-high 11 K.

A+: San Jose lost to Stockton 14-10

San Jose: 1B Brian Ragira: 3 for 4, HR, 2B, BB
San Jose: RF Tyler Horan: 3 for 5, 2 2B, SO
San Jose: DH Chuckie Jones: 2 for 4, HR, BB, SO

San Jose: SP Pat Young: 4.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
San Jose: SP Tim Alderson: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 2 K--2 HR

Ragira followed up his two-homer game with another HR.  He has 10 HRs since the Cal League's all-star break.  Jones connected for his 14th HR.  Horan doubled twice.  He has hit .320/.414/.680 through his first 50 AB in the Cal League.

Young has allowed 17 ER in 12.0 IP over his last three starts, but tonight he still fared at least as well as Tim Alderson, the former Giants' prospect now in the Athletics organization.

A-: Augusta defeated Asheville 5-0

Augusta: DH Craig Massoni: 2 for 3, 2B, BB, SO

Augusta: SP Steven Messner: 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Asheville: SP Kyle Freeland: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Massoni doubled, singled and walked.  In his second pro season, he has hit .268/.384/.381 through 310 AB.

Messner had presumably the best start of his career, facing just one batter over the minimum in 7.0 scoreless IP.  Freeland, whom the Rockies drafted eight overall this year, had 4.2 scoreless IP in his eighth pro start.

ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Boise 4-1

Salem-Keizer: 1B Skyler Ewing: 2 for 4, HR

Salem-Keizer: SP Keury Mella: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--2 WP
Salem-Keizer: RP Donald Snelten: 1.0 IP, 2 K

Ewing led off the 4th inning with his 6th HR.

Mella has allowed only an unearned run in 6.0 IP over three rehab starts.  Snelten had 2 K in a perfect 8th inning.  After spending most of the year with the GreenJackets, this was his fourth NWL appearance.

R: Scottsdale had its regular off-day

DSL: Gigantes defeated Rojos 5-0

Dominican: C Miguel Gomez: 3 for 3, BB, SB
Dominican: SP Victor Concepcion: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K--1 WP

Gomez's three singles raised his AVG to .332.   Concepcion had 5.0 scoreless IP to improve his W-L record to 6-1 in fourteen starts.
