Wednesday highlight from the Giants' farm: Nick Vander Tuig allowed 1 R in 7.0 IP.

AAA: Fresno defeated Oklahoma City 4-3
(scoring three runs in the 8th inning)

Fresno: C Trevor Brown: 2 for 2
Fresno: RF Jarrett Parker: 2 for 3, BB, E

Fresno: SP Austin Fleet: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

Among four Grizzlies with two hits each, Parker reached base three times.  Brown also had two hits, although he was not in the starting lineup.

Fleet's fourth PCL start this year was his best so far after allowing 4 ER in each of the previous three starts.

AA: Richmond at New Hampshire postponed due to rain
(A makeup doubleheader is scheduled for tomorrow.)

A+: San Jose lost to Rancho Cucamonga 2-1 (11 innings)

San Jose: CF Daniel Carbonell: 2 for 4, HBP, 2 SO, SB

San Jose: SP Nick Vander Tuig: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Rancho Cucamonga: SP Julio Urias: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K--1 HB

Among three Giants with two hits each, Carbonell reached base three times.

Vander Tuig had his best start this year, facing just two batters over the minimum in 7.0 IP.  His start included a 13/4 GO/FO line.  Urias, the Dodgers' top pitching prospect, struck out 9 of his 22 batters.

A-: Augusta lost to West Virginia 5-3 (7 innings) in game 1
(allowing two runs in the 7th inning)

Augusta: SP Luis Ysla: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K--1 HR, 1 HB

Ross's 6th HR gave the GreenJackets' the early lead in the 1st inning.  Jones was one of two GreenJackets' with two hits.  Jones, whom the Pirates drafted a year ago in the third round, connected for his 19th and 20th HR--leading off the 6th inning with a game-tying HR and then ending the game with a walk-off HR in the 7th inning.

Ysla had his streak of five straight starts with 1 ER or less snapped.  His ERA rose to 2.36.

A-: Augusta lost to West Virginia 5-3 (7 innings) in game 2
(allowing all five runs over the 2nd and 3rd innings)

Augusta: CF Chris Lofton: 2 for 2, 2 2B, BB, CS, PO

Augusta: SP Chase Johnson: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K--1 HR

Lofton reached base in all three plate appearances but subsequently made outs on the basepaths twice.

Johnson's ERA rose back above 5.00.

ssA: Salem-Keizer defeated Eugene 2-1

Salem-Keizer: SP Jose Reyes: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

Slater was the lone Volcano to reach base twice.

Reyes faced just three batters over the minimum in 5.0 scoreless IP.

Compton and Riley each reached base three times.

Coonrad made his third start.  In relief, Woods struck out five of his eight batters.

(still in progress in middle of 9th inning at "press time")

Scottsdale: 1B Chase Compton: 1 for 4, 2B, SO

Scottsdale: SP Tyler Beede: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Murray and Compton each doubled while the rookie Giants were limited to five hits through nine innings.

Making his third pro start, Beede struck out four of his ten batters in 2.2 scoreless IP.

DSL: Gigantes lost to Orioles2 2-0

Dominican: 3B Hengerber Medina: 2 for 3, CS
Dominican: SP Prebito Reyes: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K--1 E

Medina singled twice to raise his AVG to .200.  Reyes has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts, improving his ERA to 3.32.
