Dan Uggla, Tyler Colvin officially designated for assignment

After a weird couple of days, the transactions we were expecting finally happened.

Perhaps you were not around when the Giants accidentally designated Sergio Romo for assignment. That was a blast. I didn't think we'd have anything like it, but this Wednesday came close. Chris Haft got a (correct) scoop that was probably not supposed to get out, and there was damage control. Our celebrating was rudely interrupted.

The scoop was that Tyler Colvin and Dan Uggla were released. It was quickly retracted, with the Giants saying they weren't sure what was going to happen with Uggla and, say, Tyler Colvin scored an extra option from some dude on Craigslist, so he was just going to Fresno.

Phew.

It's official now, though:

Matt Duffy and Jarrett Parker were added to the 25- and 40-man rosters. Parker probably would have been added to keep him away from the Rule 5 draft this offseason, so the team will get a look at him now. Duffy will save us and win the NLCS MVP.

Dan Uggla, well, it's hard to believe he got a chance in the first place, but it's even harder to believe that the Giants realized what a mess they were in so quickly. He never had a hit as a Giant, but we'll always have his run.

Colvin might clear waivers and head back to Fresno, though it's not implausible that another team claims him. Considering that it would take another 40-man move to get him back up to the majors, it's probably the last we've seen of him in a Giants uniform.
