Giants sign Dominican outfield prospect, Sandro Fabian

The outfielder has offensive potential and a 70-grade name, and he signed for $500,000.

USA TODAY Sports

Baseball America is reporting that the Giants have signed 16-year-old outfielder Sandro Fabian for $500,000, kicking off the Giants' international signing season. From BA's report:

Fabian, a 16-year-old righthanded hitter, is 6 feet, 180 pounds and he makes hard contact when he does connect, including the MLB showcase in San Pedro de Macoris in January when he went 4-for-6 with a walk, though he’s been inconsistent at the plate as he learns to tighten his plate discipline. Fabian has played center field but his arm and speed work better in left field.

The only other report I could find on him is here:

I had the chance to watch the IPL team take batting practice and infield. If you’re looking for a name for when July 2nd rolls around, one player that looked impressive was outfielder Sandro Fabian Pena. He went to all fields fairly well, showed good power and unleashed a few rocket throws from right field that were right on the money. He just turned 16 in March, and in my humble opinion, would sure look good in a Brewers uniform.

Sounds good to me! The Giants have an international cap of just under $2.5 million, so the Fabian signing takes up almost 20 percent of their budget. Looking forward to him on the 2019 Giants, even if he was two when AT&T Park was built, and that makes me feel really old.
