Friday's most notables from the Giants' farm: (in short-season ball) Johneshwy Fargas and Julio Pena each homered among three hits, and Nichlas Gonzalez and Michael Santos combined to allow just 1 R in 11.0 IP in their starts.

AAA: Fresno defeated New Orleans 7-3
(rallying with four runs in the 8th inning)

Fresno: 2B Joe Panik: 3 for 5, 2B, SB

New Orleans: C Kyle Skipworth: 1 for 2, HR, BB, HBP

Fresno: SP Mike Kickham: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K--1 HB
New Orleans: SP Alex Sanabia: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K--1 HR, 1 WP

Panik's three hits, including his 14th double, paced the Grizzlies' fourteen-hit attack and raised his AVG to .321.  He also had his 3rd SB.  Ishikawa connected for his 5th HR.  Skipworth, with the Marlins drafted sixth overall four years ago but has managed just one season with a .300 OBP, hit his 7th HR while reaching base three times.

Kickham bounced back from his last start (6 R in 1.2 IP) with a quality start.  His component stats this year are now 86 H, 33 BB, 6 HR, and 66 K in 77.1 IP.  Sanabia, who had ten starts in the majors last year, struck out close to half his batters (11 of 25) while he matched Kickham's quality start (2 R in 6.0 IP).

AA: Richmond defeated Erie 4-3
(scoring the tying run in the 8th inning and the winning run in the 9th inning)

Among four Flying Squirrels with two hits each, Parker had his 5th triple and Lollis his 3rd double.  Schroder led off the 9th inning with his 2nd HR.

Fleet delivered his longest start of the year, throwing just 87 pitches (54 strikes) in 7.0 IP.  Strickland and Hall each followed with 1.0 perfect IP.

A+: San Jose lost to Visalia 5-3
(allowing two runs in the 8th inning)

San Jose: LF Elliott Blair: 2 for 2, 2 BB, E

San Jose: SP Pat Young: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K--1 HR, 1 HB

Blair reached base in all four plate appearances, raising his OBP above .350.

Young, who has recorded an out in the 6th inning just once this year, completed 5.0 IP.

A-: Augusta lost to Asheville 4-3

Augusta: SP Keury Mella: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K--1 HB, 1 WP

Lofton and Ross eached had three of the GreenJackets' nine hits.  Their AVGs remain close to .230.

Mella had a season-high 10 K.  In four starts since Memorial Day, he has 25 K and 3 BB in 23.0 IP, although that has not translated into run prevention with 16 R allowed.

ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Hillsboro 2-1

Salem-Keizer: SP Nicholas Gonzalez: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K--1 BK

With his 1st HR, 2nd double, a single, and a walk, Fargas was the lone Volcanoe with multiple hits.  He is off to a hot start with a .381 AVG.

After allowing 5 R in his first pro start, Gonzalez rebounded with a quality start in his second pro start.

R: Scottsdale defeated Talking Stick 5-3

Scottsdale: RF Julio Pena: 3 for 4, HR

Scottsdale: SP Michael Santos: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K--1 HB

Pena homered in the season opener.  He had 2 HRs in the AZL last summer.

Santos faced just three batters over the minimum in 5.0 scoreless IP.  The 19-year-old was making his fifth pro appearance after four starts last year in the AZL.

DSL: Gigantes defeated Rockies 10-9

Dominican: C Miguel Gomez: 3 for 4, HR, 2B, BB, SO
Dominican: RP Jose De La Cruz: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Gomez hit his 2nd HR while reaching base four times.  Providing long relief, De La Cruz's sixth appearance was his longest this year.
