Matt Cain placed on disabled list for hamstring injury

He's tripled his career DL trips in the last month.

Matt Cain tweaked his hamstring last week in the purple death fortress known as Coors Field, and the always optimistic Giants decided to play the wait-and-see game with him, keeping him on the active roster. They waited. They saw. And now Cain is on the disabled list. Juan Perez is coming up to take Cain's place on the 25-man roster.

The good news: 12 pitchers and a full bench.

The bad news: No Matt Cain for a bit. Gross.

I'm assuming the move is retroactive to May 21, so Cain still can't make his next scheduled start, which would be June 5. With the off day on Tuesday, though, the Giants can move Madison Bumgarner up a day instead of letting Yusmeiro Petit make another start, which would allow Cain to start on June 6. Or June 7. Heck, it's up to his jerk of a hamstring.

Man, is anything going to go right for the Giants this year? Other than the constant winning.
