Tuesday highlight from the Giants' farm: Brian Ragira homered among three hits.
AAA: Fresno defeated El Paso 7-3
(scoring five runs in the 4th inning)
Fresno: CF Gary Brown: 2 for 5, HR, 2 SO
Fresno: LF Chris Dominguez: 3 for 5, 2 SO, SB
Fresno: SS Ydwin Villegas: 2 for 3, BB, SB
Fresno: SP Mike Kickham: 3.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Fresno: RP Adam Reifer: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 3 K
Brown hit his 2nd HR--a two-run, two-out shot in the 4th inning. Dominguez and Villegas each reached base three times. Plus, each had a SB, and Dominguez also threw out a runner at the plate.
Kickham's sixth start was his shortest this year, at least in terms of IP. He threw 74 pitches (48 strikes) in just 3.0 IP. Reifer faced the minimum in 3.0 scoreless IP. Both Kickham and Reifer have ERAs close to 3.40.
AA: Bowie lost to Richmond 3-1
(allowing two runs in the 6th inning)
Richmond: 1B Angel Villalona: 2 for 4, 2B, SO
Richmond: C Eliezer Zambrano: 2 for 3
Richmond: SP Jack Snodgrass: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Richmond: RP Derek Law: 1.0 IP, 1 K
Villalona, who hit his 4th double, and Zambrano, who played his first game this year, were two of three Flying Squirrels with two hits each.
Snodgrass allowed a season-high 7 H but just 1 R. Over his previous four appearances, including two starts, he had allowed just 9 H in 14.2 IP. Law pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 6th save.
A+: San Jose lost to Modesto 12-9
(after trailing 8-6 entering the 5th inning)
San Jose: 3B Mitch Delfino: 3 for 4, BB
San Jose: 1B Brian Ragira: 3 for 5, HR, 2B, 2 SO
Modesto: SS Trevor Story: 3 for 3, 2 2B, 2 BB, 2 SB, 2 E
San Jose: SP Joan Gregorio: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
San Jose: RP Steven Okert: 1.0 IP, 1 K
Ragira hit his 3rd HR, 4th double, and a single. He entered the game hitting just .192/.292/.308 through 78 AB. Delfino was one of two other Giants with three hits, improving his AVG to .323. Rockies' prospect Story had another big night, reaching base in all five plate appearances and also getting his 15th and 16th SB.
After allowing just 3 ER (in 13.1 IP) over his first three starts, Gregorio has allowed 13 ER (in 7.2 IP) over his subsequent two starts. He has been rather hittable with a .307 BAA (27 H in 22.0 IP). Okert pitched a perfect 8th inning. He has been less hittable with 20 K and 7 H in 12.1 IP.
A-: Augusta lost to Charleston 8-4
(after trailing 5-0 entering the 5th inning)
Augusta: SS Ryder Jones: 2 for 4, 2B, 2 E
Augusta: CF Cristian Paulino: 2 for 3, 3B
Charleston: RF Aaron Judge: 3 for 4, HR
Augusta: SP Chase Johnson: 4.0+ IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K--1 HB, 1 WP
Jones and Paulino each had two of the GreenJackets' seven hits, including Paulino's 1st triple and Jones' 7th double. Jones also committed his 10th and 11th errors (in 23 games). Judge, whom the Yankees drafted 32nd overall a year ago out of Fresno State, connected for his 2nd HR among three hits. He has hit .354/.463/.481 through 79 AB.
Johnson's fifth start was clearly his least effective of the young season. The 7 H, 3 BB, and 5 R all represented new season highs, which came in a season-low 4.0 IP. Still, his ERA remains below 2.50.
