The Giants set their 25-man roster for the NL Wild Card Game, and they'll carry 10 pitchers, including both Yusmeiro Petit and Jake Peavy in the event of emergency. Tim Lincecum will be on the roster, too, so the Giants will be well-equipped in the event of a 20-inning ... I can't even joke like that without retching.
The roster:
Pitchers (10)
Jeremy Affeldt - LHP
Madison Bumgarner - LHP
Santiago Casilla - RHP
Tim Lincecum - RHP
Javier Lopez - LHP
Jean Machi - RHP
Jake Peavy - RHP
Yusmeiro Petit - RHP
Sergio Romo - RHP
Hunter Strickland - RHP
Catchers (3)
Buster Posey
Guillermo Quiroz
Andrew Susac
Infielders (7)
Joaquin Arias
Brandon Belt
Brandon Crawford
Matt Duffy
Adam Duvall
Joe Panik
Pablo Sandoval
Outfielders (5)
Gregor Blanco
Gary Brown
Travis Ishikawa
Hunter Pence
Juan Perez
I have a conspiracy theory for you: Gary Brown got just seven plate appearances in a stretch where the Giants were desperate for outfielders because they didn't want him to be scouted. There's almost certainly an easily defined way to pitch to Brown, and every at-bat got the advance scouts closer to what that was. That's not to say he's the secret weapon. But the Giants liked his speed and figured they would try anything they could to help him not be overmatched at the plate.
I approve of the Duvall addition. Allowing Susac to be a pinch-hitter is a nice use of a 25-man roster that's without two starting pitchers. Lincecum's on the roster, and I guess he's a human Wait 'Til Next Year banner, should he enter the game. Unless it's a 20-inning ...
Ugh.
Ughhhhgahghhh.
I shouldn't have watched last night's game.
