minor lines, 8/19/13

Monday highlight from the Giants' farm: Yusmeiro Petit had 6.0 near-perfect IP.  Also notable, Joe Kurrasch had 5.2 scoreless IP.

AAA: Fresno defeated Reno 3-1

Fresno: RF Francisco Peguero: 2 for 4, SO
Fresno: 1B Johnny Monell: 1 for 4, HR, SO

Fresno: SP Yusmeiro Petit: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
Reno: SP Joe Paterson: 0.1 IP

Monell led off the 7th inning with his 19th HR.  Peguero was the game's lone player with two hits.  He has a .316 AVG.

Petit had perhaps the best start of his pro career, at least from a statistical perspective, facing just one batter over the minimum in 6.0 scoreless IP.  But his effort was cut short after 60 pitches (45 strikes) in a game that started with a 108F temperature and included an 84-minute delay.  Paterson, the ex-Giants prospect in his third year with the Diamondbacks, made his first pro start but made just four pitches, being replaced after retiring the leadoff batter on a bunt attempt.

AA: Richmond hosting Harrisburg postponed by rain
(A makeup doubleheader is scheduled for tomorrow.)

A+: San Jose had an off-day
(their final scheduled off-day this year)

A-: Augusta defeated Savannah 3-2 (7 innings) in game 1

Augusta: 1B Joseph Rapp: 1 for 3, HR
Augusta: RF Chuckie Jones: 2 for 3, SO

Augusta: SP Joe Biagini: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 1 K

Rapp hit his 5th HR.  With two singles, Jones was the lone GreenJacket to reach base twice, raising his AVG to .238.

Biagini allowed nearly half (5 of 12) his batters to reach base in another abbreviated start.  He came up shy of completing 4.0 IP for the fourth time in his last six starts.

A-: Augusta defeated Savannah 4-0

Augusta: 3B Mitchell Delfino: 2 for 3, 2B, GiDP

Augusta: SP Joe Kurrasch: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Delfino hit his 24th double and a single to raise his AVG to .256.

Kurrasch's tenth start was perhaps the best of his young pro career.

ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Vancouver 8-4

Salem-Keizer: LF Brian Ragira: 2 for 5, 2B, 2 SO
Salem-Keizer: 2B Ryan Jones: 1 for 2, 2 BB, SO

Salem-Keizer: SP Pat Young: 4.0+ IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K

Ragira was one of three Volcanoes with two hits, and his 10th double was their lone XBH.  Jones reached base three times.  He leads the Volcanoes with a .378 AVG and .454 OBP, but with just 111 AB he does not have enough plate appearances to rank among the league leaders.

After allowing 0 ER in his first five NWL starts, Young allowed 3 ER in his sixth NWL start.

R: Scottsdale had an off-day
(their to next to last scheduled off-day)

DSL: Gigantes defeated Orioles1 1-0

Dominican: LF Jean Angomas: 3 for 4, 2B, BB
Dominican: SP Jose Morel: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

Angomas (18.2 y.o.) reached base four times, raising his OBP to .373 in his first pro season.  Morel (19.11 y.o.) made his first start after a 1.39 ERA in 20 relief appearances and faced just two batters over the minimum in 7.0 scoreless IP.
