Thursday highlights from the Giants' farm: Joan Gregorio had 9.0 scoreless IP, Adalberto Mejia had 5.2 scoreless IP, and Edwin Escobar allowed just 1 R in 6.0 IP.

Kieschnick had 3 XBH while reaching base in all four plate appearances. After just 3 XBH previously in July (fourteen games), tonight's performance raised his SLG back to .474. Noonan also had three hits, raising his AVG to .340. Brown hit his 12th HR.

Surkamp, who had allowed just 5 R over first three PCL starts, allowed a season-high 6 R in his fourth PCL start. Bochy, Machi and Hembree combined for 4 K in 3.0 perfect IP.

AA: Richmond defeated Bowie 6-3

Herrera and Stromsmoe went back-to-back in the 7th inning for their 13th and 1st HRs. Minicozzi collected three hits while reaching base in all four plate appearances.

Escobar's second start in the upper minors was much stronger than his first start. For the year, he now has 105 K and 18 BB in 85.1 IP.

A+: San Jose defeated Modesto 2-0

San Jose: LF Devin Harris: 2 for 4, HR, 2B, SO

San Jose: SP Adalberto Mejia: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K--1 WP
San Jose: RP Jose Casilla: 1.0 IP, 1 K

Harris hit his 19th HR and 29th double. His HR total is tied for 3rd in the ten-team Cal League, while his 29 doubles lead the league.

Mejia had perhaps one of his best two starts this year. He did not complete the 6th inning after throwing 94 pitches (60 strikes) but did achieve a season-high 9 K. Casilla pitched a perfect 8th inning.

Cain has four multi-hit games in his seven-game hitting streak. With a .348 AVG so far in July, he has raised his season AVG above .250. Rodriguez also had two hits, but his AVG remains below .220.

Gregorio allowed only three batters to reach base. In the second inning, he issued a walk, with the following batter reaching via error. The only other batter to reach base against Gregorio struck out but reached on the wild pitch. After eleven starts, Gregorio's component stats are 50 H, 13 BB and 73 K in 60.2 IP. Okert pitched a perfect 9th inning.

ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Tri-City 5-3

Bednar led off the 4th inning with his 3rd HR.

For the second time in seven starts, Kurrasch allowed 4 ER in the 1st inning. His ERA rose to 5.00. McVey provided long relief.

Batting in the top two spots in the lineup, Arroyo and Jones, the Giants' top two draftees this year, both reached base twice. Jones now has a .400 AVG.

Pino had a somewhat abbreviated start, while Knight provided long relief.

Astacio (19.9 y.o.) had his 5th and 6th XBHs in 85 AB. Gomez (18.10 y.o.) struck out four of his seven batters. He has a 5-0 W-L record after ten relief appearances.
