Monday highlight from the Giants' farm: Jason Forjet had 6.0 scoreless IP.
AAA: Fresno lost to Las Vegas 8-0
Fresno: 3B-1B Chris Dominguez: 2 for 3, 3B
Fresno: SP Mike Kickham: 7.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 K--1 HR
Dominguez's 4th triple and single were two of just three hits for the Grizzlies, who sent just four batters over the minimum to the plate. After hitting just .235/.259/.331 last year, he has rebounded to hit .271/.317/.503 through 155 AB (entering tonight) this year.
Making his first start since his MLB debut, Kickham allowed 2 ER in the 2nd inning and then a 3-run HR in the 6th inning. Kickham began the season with a 7.94 ERA in five April starts, followed by a 1.72 ERA in five May PCL starts before making his MLB debut. At least from a statistical perspective, tonight's start was more in line with April than May. That said, I would not be inclined to read too much into his first start back in the minors after his MLB debut.
AA: Richmond had an off-day
(the first of three straight scheduled Monday off-days)
A+: San Jose defeated Modesto 5-0
San Jose: 1B Angel Villalona: 3 for 4, 2B, BB
San Jose: RF Mac Williamson: 1 for 3, HR
San Jose: SP Jason Forjet: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K--1 WP
San Jose: RP Cody Hall: 1.0 IP, 3 K
Moved up to third in the batting order, Villalona did not homer but he did reach base four times, improving upon the .280 OBP with which he entered the game. Williamson led off the 2nd inning with his 7th HR. He later reached via catcher's interference--the rare outcome of a plate appearance that is not well-tracked statistically and so problematic for statistical precision (as it does not count as an official at bat).
Making his third start, Forjet faced just three batters over the minimum in 6.0 scoreless IP. After just 4 K over his prior two starts combined, he struck out more than one third of his batters with a season-high 8 K. Hall struck out all three of his batters in a perfect 8th inning. The 25-year-old has a 1.74 ERA through sixteen appearances.
A-: Augusta had an off-day
(their last scheduled off-day prior to their June 17-19 all-star break)
DSL: Gigantes defeated Twins 7-6
Dominican: RF Jean Angomas: 2 for 4, 2B, SO
Dominican: RP Shawn Gomez: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K--1 WP
Angomas (17.11 y.o.) doubled and singled in his pro debut. Gomez (18.9 y.o.) provided 5.0 IP of solid relief in his season debut. Last year he had a 3.60 ERA in ten relief appearances.
