Thursday highlights from the Giants' farm: Kyle Crick had 8 K in 5.0 scoreless IP, and Jack Snodgrass allowed just 1 R in 7.2 IP. Also notable, Chuckie Jones homered while reaching base three times.

AAA: Fresno lost to Salt Lake 9-4
(allowing five runs over the 8th and 9th innings)

Fresno: CF Gary Brown: 3 for 5, 3B, SB
Fresno: 1B Brett Pill: 3 for 5, 2B

Fresno: SP Justin Fitzgerald: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K--1 HR

Brown and Pill both had three hits, including Brown's 3rd triple and Pill's 18th double, raising their AVGs to .245 and .350.

Fitzgerald made his first PCL start in seven weeks, following his one rehab start in the AZL a few days ago. In his two PCL starts, he has been fairly hittable with 17 H in 9.1 IP.

AA: Richmond defeated Erie 3-1

Richmond: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 2 for 4, 2B, SO
Richmond: RF Jarrett Parker: 3 for 3, 2 2B, BB

Richmond: SP Jack Snodgrass: 7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K--1 HB, 1 BK
Richmond: RP Edwin Quirarte: 1.0 IP, 1 K

Parker hit his 10th and 11th doubles, plus a single and a walk, reaching base in all four plate appearances. After a hot May (OPS over .950), he had a rather cool June, with just 8 hits over his previous 23 games. For the year, he has hit .233/.332/.428 in 257 AB. Oropesa was one of three other Flying Squirrels with two hits.

Snodgrass has been the Squirrels' most effective starter this year. His 2.67 ERA ranks 5th in the ten-team Eastern League. Quirarte pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 7th save.

A+: San Jose defeated Stockton 2-1 (10 innings)

San Jose: SS Bobby Haney: 1 for 3, BB

San Jose: SP Kyle Crick: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
San Jose: RP Cody Hall: 2.0 IP, 3 K

With a single and a walk, Haney was the lone Giant to reach base twice.

Crick struck out out 8 of his 19 batters. With 5.0 scoreless IP, he brought his ERA below 0.50 (1 ER in 18.2 IP). Hall struck out 3 of his 7 batters and had 2.0 perfect IP aside from an error.

A-: Augusta lost to Asheville 10-6

Augusta: RF Chuckie Jones: 2 for 3, HR, BB
Augusta: LF Andrew Cain: 1 for 3, HR, BB, SO, E

Augusta: SP Kendry Flores: 4.0+ IP, 12 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 0 BB, 4 K--1 HR

Jones and Cain both hit their 4th HRs.

Flores experienced his worst start of the year, allowing 6 ER in the 3rd inning and 2 ER in the 5th inning. He allowed a season-high 8 R. Even after a season-high 12 H, his BAA remains just .228 (with 69 H in 80.0 IP).

ssA: Salem-Keizer defeated Eugene 9-3

Salem-Keizer: SP Joseph Kurrasch: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K--1 WP
Salem-Keizer: RP Eduardo Encinosa: 1.0 IP, 1 K

Jones, who hit .227 in nearly 200 AB last summer in the NWL and who had just 2 hits through his first four games this year, had three of the Volcanoes' thirteen hits tonight.

Kurrasch had his second straight start with 5.0 scoreless IP. Encinosa had allowed 2 ER in two of his three appearances previously this year but pitched a perfect 8th inning tonight.

R: Giants defeated Cubs 3-1

Scottsdale: LF Tyler Horan: 3 for 4, 2 2B
Scottsdale: CF Julio Pena: 2 for 4, 3B

Scottsdale: SP Keury Mella: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Playing his seventh pro game, Horan had three hits, including his 3rd and 4th doubles. With his 1st triple and a single, Pena was the other rookie Giant with multiple hits.

Making his second start in the U.S., Mella struck out over a third (6 of 17) of his batters.
