Wednesday highlight from the Giants' farm: Johnny Monell homered among three hits.

AAA: Fresno defeated Tucson 5-4 (12 innings)

Fresno: SS Carter Jurica: 3 for 5, 2B, BB, SO
Fresno: 1B Johnny Monell: 3 for 6, HR, 3B, 2 SO

Fresno: SP Mitch Lively: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 5 K--1 HR, 3 WP

Monell hit his 11th HR to lead off the 2nd inning. In the 12th inning, he led off with his 1st triple this year, before ultimately scoring the winning run. Both he and Jurica had three hits, raising their AVGs to .281 and .284.

Lively, who had issued 7 BB over his previous four starts, struggled with his control, walking nearly one quarter (6 of 25) his batters and throwing 3 WP. Still, he had allowed just 1 ER before departing the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th inning.

AA: Richmond lost to Harrisburg 2-1

Richmond: 2B Joe Panik: 1 for 3, BB, SO

Richmond: SP Carlos Teller: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K--1 HR, 1 E

Panik was one of three Flying Squirrels to reach base twice. In terms of batting average, his season has trended the wrong direction. After hitting .320 in April, he hit .257 in May and now just .162 through June's first ten games.

Teller's sixth start was perhaps his best so far in that he had a season-low 2 BB in a season-high 6.0 IP. Tonight's performance evened his K/BB ratio at 1.00.

A+: San Jose defeated Modesto 5-3 (11 innings)

San Jose: RF Mac Williamson: 2 for 4, BB
San Jose: C Jeff Arnold: 2 for 5, 3B, 2B, SO

San Jose: SP Clayton Blackburn: 7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 7 K--1 HR, 1 HB
San Jose: RP Josh Osich: 2.0 IP, 3 K

Among four Giants with two hits each, Williamson reached base three times, and Arnold hit his 4th triple and 10th double. Williamson raised his OBP above .340, and Arnold his SLG to nearly .525.

Blackburn had his second straight quality start with 7 K. Through twelve starts, his component stats are 57 H, 18 BB, 6 HR and 76 K in 65.2 IP. Osich had 3 K in 2.0 perfect IP in extra innings, bouncing back from his prior appearance (4 ER in 1.1 IP).

A-: Augusta defeated Kannapolis 5-3

Augusta: C Trevor Brown: 2 for 4, BB, SO, 2 CS
Augusta: RF Chuckie Jones: 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB

Augusta: SP Joe Biagini: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K--1 HB

Brown and Jones both reached base three times, raising their OBPs to .307 and .296. Jones' 7th and 8th doubles were the GreenJackets' only XBHs.

Biagini had a solid start. His hit rate has increased recently with 25 H in his last four starts after just 26 H in his four seven starts (although that may be not be a meaningful sample size for H/IP). Still, his BAA remains just .234.
