Monday highlights from the Giants' farm: Gary Brown and Hector Sanchez both homered while combining for seven hits, and Kelvin Marte had 7.0 scoreless IP.
AAA: Fresno defeated Tucson 10-1
Fresno: CF Gary Brown: 4 for 5, HR, 2B, SO
Fresno: 3B Nick Noonan: 3 for 5, 2B
Fresno: C Hector Sanchez: 3 for 5, HR, SO
Fresno: SP Austin Fleet: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K--1 PO
Fresno: RP Sandy Rosario: 3.0 IP, 2 K
Brown had perhaps his best game of the year, at least from a statistical perspective, as he hit his 4th HR, 16th double and a pair of singles. The four hits raised his AVG to .220. Sanchez also had a big game, with his 1st HR and a pair of singles. Noonan, playing his first PCL game this year, also had three hits.
Fleet allowed nearly half (9 of 20) his batters to reach base but kept the damage to just a run. He had a high pitch count with 96 pitches (58 strikes) in just 4.0 IP. Rosario threw 3.0 perfect IP for the rare three-inning save.
AA: Richmond had an off-day
(their second of three straight Monday off-days)
A+: San Jose lost to Modesto 6-4 (10 innings)
(after leading 1-0 entering the 8th inning)
San Jose: 2B Brock Bond: 2 for 5, SO
San Jose: SP Kelvin Marte: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
San Jose: RP Josh Osich: 1.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K--1 BK
The 27-year-old Bond was the lone Giant with two hits. After spending the last four seasons in the upper minors, he is off to a slow start this year hitting just .221 through 95 AB (back in the Cal League).
Marte had his most effective start of the year, facing just one batter over the minimum in 7.0 scoreless IP. Osich had enjoyed strong results this year, allowing just 5 R and 4 ER through his first 25 games. Tonight, though, he doubled those totals, allowing the tying run in the 9th inning and another 4 R in the 10th inning. His ERA nearly doubled to 2.27.
A-: Augusta at Kannapolis postponed by rain
(A makeup doubleheader is scheduled for tomorrow.)
DSL: Gigantes defeated Diamondbacks 6-5 (7.5 innings)
Dominican: 3B Nathanael Javier: 1 for 3, 2B, BB, SO
Dominican: RP Reymi Rodriguez: 3.0+ IP, 2 H, 6 K--1 WP
Javier (17.8 y.o.) had his first game reaching base twice. Rodriguez (18.9 y.o.), making his second pro appearance, struck out six of his eleven batters.
