AAA: Fresno lost to Tacoma 8-6
(after allowing four runs in the 8th inning)
Fresno: 2B Kensuke Tanaka: 3 for 5, 2 SO
Fresno: LF Roger Kieschnick: 4 for 5, HR, 2B
Tacoma: C Mike Zunino: 2 for 4, HR, 2B, BB

Fresno: RP Dan Runzler: 0.2 IP, 2 K
Fresno: RP Heath Hembree: 1.0 IP, 1 BB
Kieschnick had a big game, capping his four-hit performance with a two-run HR in the 9th inning. He and Tanaka combined for half of the Grizzlies' fourteen hits. Zunino, the third overall draft pick by the Mariners' a year ago, is already in the PCL and connected for his 2nd HR in the 1st inning.
Kown allowed the three-run HR to Zunino in the 1st inning but then not another run. Runzler faced just two batters, striking out both, although throwing 17 pitches (11 strikes) in the process. Hembree walked one of his three batters.
AA: Richmond defeated New Britain 7-5
Richmond: 3B Adam Duvall: 1 for 2, HR, 2 BB, SO
Richmond: LF Javier Herrera: 2 for 3, HR, BB, 2 SB
Richmond: SP Chris Gloor: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K--1 HR
Duvall and Herrera both homered while reaching base three times. For Duvall, it was his 1st HR after 30 HRs last year. For Herrera, it was his second straight game with a big fly.
A year ago, Gloor managed a sub-3.00 ERA despite a K/IP below 0.75. His first start this year went squarely against that trend.
A+: San Jose defeated Visalia 6-2
San Jose: 3B Ryan Cavan: 2 for 3, HR, HBP, CS
San Jose: DH Devin Harris: 1 for 4, HR, 2 SO
Visalia: DH Cody Ross: 0 for 3
San Jose: SP Kyle Crick: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 3 K--1 WP
San Jose: RP Jorge Bucardo: 2.0 IP, 1 K
San Jose: RP Jeff Soptic: 1.0 IP, 2 K
In the 4th inning, Cavan and Harris went back-to-back with their 1st HRs this year. Ross, the ex-Giant now with the Diamondbacks, is now 0 for 8 through the first three games of his rehab assignment.
Making his Cal League debut, Crick walked four batters but did not allow an earned run. Bucardo and Soptic combined for 3.0 perfect IP as they made their second relief appearances of the year.
A-: Augusta defeated Lexington 4-1 (7 innings) in game 1
Augusta: SS Matthew Duffy: 2 for 3, E
Augusta: 3B Shayne Houck: 2 for 3
Augusta: SP Chris Stratton: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Augusta: RP Tyler Mizenko: 1.0 IP, 1 K
Duffy and Houck each had two of the GreenJackets' seven hits.
Stratton, the Giants' first rounder a year ago, allowed just a single run in his full-season debut. Mizenko pitched a perfect 7th inning for his 1st save. He had 13 saves in the NWL last summer.
A-: Augusta defeated Lexington 4-1 (7 innings) in game 2
Augusta: C Benjamin Turner: 2 for 3, 2B
Augusta: SP Joan Gregorio: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Playing in his first pro game, Turner doubled and singled.
Like Stratton in the first game, Gregorio also allowed just a single run. In fact, his peripheral stats were slightly better than Stratton's.
