Tuesday highlight from the Giants farm: the four starting pitchers Shane Loux, Taylor Rogers, Clayton Blackburn and Martin Agosta combined for just 1 ER in 21.0 IP. Also highlight worthy: Johnny Monell homered and doubled.
AAA: Fresno defeated Tacoma 3-2
Fresno: C Johnny Monell: 2 for 4, HR, 2B, E
Fresno: SS Carter Jurica: 2 for 4, 2B, SO
Tacoma: C Mike Zunino: 0 for 4, 3 SO
Fresno: SP Shane Loux: 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Fresno: RP Heath Hembree: 1.0 IP, 1 BB, 2 K
Monell had his 2nd HR and 2nd double. Jurica also had two hits for the Grizzlies, including his 6th double. He has an OPS over 1.000 through his first eleven games this year. Zunino, whom the Mariners drafted third overall last year, had a huge first week but has gone cold since. In his last last eight games, he is 0 for 14 with 6 SO but still has an OPS of nearly 1.000.
Loux had 4.0 scoreless IP in his season debut. Hembree struck out two of his four batters as he got his 4th save.
AA: Richmond tied with Altoona 1-1 (suspended after 9 innings)
(game to be resumed tomorrow)
Richmond: 2B Joe Panik: 2 for 4, 2B
Richmond: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 3 for 3, BB
Richmond: SP Taylor Rogers: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 5 K--1 PO
Oropesa had his first multi-hit game this year as he reached base safely in all four plate appearances. He and Panik combined for all but one of the Flying Squirrels' six hits.
Despite issuing five free passes, Rogers did not allow a run in his second start.
A+: San Jose defeated Stockton 2-1
San Jose: CF Elliott Blair: 1 for 4, HR
San Jose: 3B Ryan Cavan: 2 for 3, 2B, BB
San Jose: SP Clayton Blackburn: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K--1 HR
San Jose: RP Bryce Bandilla: 2.0 IP, 1 BB, 4 K
Blair's 2nd HR was a solo shot in the 5th inning that scored the game's only run after the 1st inning. Cavan was the game's lone player with two hits. He raised his AVG to .382.
Blackburn allowed only a solo HR in the 1st inning as he had his second straight start with 1 ER in 6.0 IP. He struck out 9 of his 23 batters. Bandilla continues to strike out batters at an aggressive clip. He has 21 K in 9.0 IP this year over his five appearances.
A-: Augusta defeated Lexington 2-1
Augusta: DH Matthew Duffy: 2 for 4, 3B, 2 SO
Augusta: 3B Mitchell Delfino: 2 for 4, SO
Augusta: SP Martin Agosta: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 7 K--1 E
Augusta: RP Tyler Mizenko: 1.0 IP, 2 K
Duffy and Delfino each had two of the GreenJackets' six hits, raising their respective AVGs to .320 and .250. Of the ten GreenJackets' hitters this year with at least 25 AB, they have the top two batting averages.
Agosta struck out one third of his batters and faced just three batters over the minimum in 6.0 IP. Through three starts, his peripheral stats are 11 H, 7 BB and 18 K in 14.2 IP. With the low hit rate and high strikeout rate, he is not allowing much solid contact, but he will want to improve the walk rate. Mizenko got his 4th save.
