Giants set Opening Day roster, take three catchers

Nick Noonan claims the last infield spot.

Three catchers. I can't ... this ... wait ...

... look, I know the people making the decisions are smarter than me. I gave up a long time ago. But either Hector Sanchez is hurt, or he's not. If he's hurt, he should be on the DL. If he's not hurt, he should be the primary backup catcher if that's what the Giants want. But a hurt Sanchez as some kind of super-pinch-hitter is kind of goofy. It's like the Giants were in the middle of a fantasy draft, and when someone yelled, "He's hurt" after they picked Hector Sanchez, they pretended to play it off.

So the big battle between Cole Gillespie and Francisco Peguero was won by Guillermo Quiroz. Or a gimpy Hector Sanchez.

The Opening Day roster:

Pitcher
Jeremy Affeldt
Madison Bumgarner
Matt Cain
Santiago Casilla
Chad Gaudin
George Kontos
Tim Lincecum
Javier Lopez
Jose Mijares
Sergio Romo
Ryan Vogelsong
Barry Zito

Catcher
Buster Posey
Hector Sanchez
Guillermo Quiroz

Infielders
Joaquin Arias
Brandon Belt
Brandon Crawford
Nick Noonan
Pablo Sandoval
Marco Scutaro

Outfielder
Gregor Blanco
Angel Pagan
Hunter Pence
Andres Torres

The fifth outfielder? Belt, I guess. Okay.
