AFL: Scottsdale defeated Peoria 7-4 (10 innings)

Scottsdale: DH Addison Maruszak: 2 for 3, 2 BB, CS
Scottsdale: CF-LF Jarrett Parker: 0 for 3, SF, SO
Scottsdale: 1B Angel Villalona: 1 for 4, 2B, PO
Peoria: 2B Cory Spangenburg: 3 for 5, HR, 2B, SO

Scottsdale: SP Adalberto Mejia: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K--1 HR
Scottsdale: RP Cody Hall: 1.0 IP, 1 K

The Giants' Villalona connected for his 3rd XBH in 15 AFL games with an RBI double in the 7th inning but was subsequently picked off second base.  The Giants' Parker contributed a sac fly in the 1st inning.  The Yankees' Maruszak, a 26-year-old who has had an OBP above .330 only once in the last five seasons, led the Scorpions' offense by reaching base four times.  Spangenburg, whom the Padres drafted tenth overall two years ago, was the game's offensive star.  With his 2nd HR and 3rd double, plus a single, he raised his AVG to .357 after 12 AFL games.

The Giants' Mejia began with two scoreless frames before giving up the two-run, two-out HR to Spangenburg in the 3rd inning.  He at least temporarily got his ERA below 9.00.  The Giants' Hall pitched a perfect 5th inning--his first AFL appearance without allowing a baserunner.  In his previous six appearances (each of 1.0 IP), he had allowed 9 H and 4 BB.  Today's performance got his WHIP back below 2.00.
