AFL: Scottsdale lost to Salt River 3-2
(as the Scorpions finished with a league-worst 10-21 W-L record)
Scottsdale: C Andrew Susac: 2 for 3, BB
Scottsdale: CF Mason Williams: 2 for 3, 2B, CS
Scottsdale: SP Kyle Crick: 3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Salt River: SP Aaron Sanchez: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K--1 WP
The Giants' Susac reached base three times. He finished his AFL campaign with an OBP over .500 as part of a .360/.507/.480 performance in 50 AB. He did have just 2 XBH, although both were home runs. The Yankees' Williams was the only other hitter in the game with two hits.
The season finale included two starting pitchers who perhaps are both among the top 50 prospects in the minors. The Giants' Crick struck out nearly half (5 of 11) his batters while allowing only a couple walks. With the strikeouts and walks, he was not particularly efficient with his pitch count, throwing 51 pitches (30 strikes) to eleven batters. The Blue Jays' Sanchez allowed just 1 R in 5.0 IP. He threw 79 pitches (49 strikes). Crick and Sanchez finished their AFL campaigns with ERAs of 2.87 and 1.16. After allowing 3 ER in his first start, Crick allowed just 2 ER over his remaining six appearances (four starts). Sanchez allowed just 3 ER over his six starts.
