AFL: Scottsdale defeated Salt River 6-5
(in their AFL season opener)
Scottsdale: C Andrew Susac: 1 for 3, BB, SO, E
Scottsdale: 3B Kyle Kubitza: 3 for 4, 2B
Scottsdale: SP Jameson Taillon: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Scottsdale: RP Adalberto Mejia: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K--1 HR
Susac, the Giants' lone position player to appear in the AFL season opener, reached base twice. Kubitza, whom the Braves drafted in the third round two years ago, had three of the Scorpions' eleven hits.
After Pirates' top prospect Taillon allowed just an unearned run in the first two innings, the Giants' Mejia followed by allowing 3 ER in the 3rd inning. After allowing the two-out, three-run HR to the Rockies' Kyle Parker (the lone HR in the game), Mejia rebounded with a perfect 4th inning.
