The Giants' Villalona singled and walked. The Giants' Parker was the lone Scorpion hitter in the lineup without a hit, but he did at least drew a walk in five plate appearances. The Braves' Reyes had hit just 1 for 10 in his first three AFL games but pounded out four hits to lead the Scorpions' thirteen-hit attack. Spangenburg, whom the Padres drafted tenth overall two years ago, also had four hits.
The Braves' Cornely had 3 K in 1.1 perfect IP. The 24-year-old had 70 K in 50.2 IP in the high-A Carolina League this year. Neither he nor Reyes were ranked among the Braves' top 30 prospects (by Baseball America) entering the 2012 season.
