AFL: Scottsdale lost to Peoria 6-3
Scottsdale: LF Jarrett Parker: 1 for 3, BB
Scottsdale: C Andrew Susac: 1 for 4, SO, 2 PB
Peoria: SS Nolan Fontana: 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB
Scottsdale: SP Kyle Crick: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Parker and Susac, the Giants two hitters in the Scorpions' lineup today, both singled, thereby combining for two of the Scorpions' five hits. Parker also walked to reach base twice. For the Javelinas, Fontana, whom the Astros drafted in the 2nd round a year ago doubled twice while also drawing a walk. Fontana is apparently not afraid to work deep into the count given his 102 BB and 100 SO among 386 AB this year (.415 OBP with a .259 AVG).
The Giants' Crick had an inauspicious AFL debut. He walked his first three batters. After a strikeout, a run-scoring passed ball, and a two-RBI double, he got out of the first inning when the batter lined out into a double play. In the 2nd inning, he got all three outs via strikeout but also allowed a couple singles. He threw 52 pitches (30 strikes). It may also be notable that both of Susac's passed balls came while catching (or not catching as the case may be) Crick.
