Fondly, to be sure.
There are three quick news hits, really: Petit is up with the Giants, Justin Christian is off the disabled list, and Brandon Belt is playing left field for the first time this year.
In reverse order: a) Glad to see Belt in the lineup on a Posey "off day", even if it's in left. By all means necessary; b) I still believe that Christian can contribute to a team and belongs on a 25-man roster, dammit; and, c) I'm still fascinated with Yusmeiro Petit.
I go into more detail on that last point here, but now I can add some current Fresno stats to the Petit profile:
Year | Age | IP | H | HR | BB | SO | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2012 | 27 | 3.46 | 166.2 | 178 | 14 | 36 | 153 |
That's quite a season in the PCL. He's probably not going to have much of an effect on the rest of the season, depending on how wacky Bruce Bochy wants to get in the late innings, but it'll be nice to watch him on television, at least. And hopefully now that he's on the 40-man roster, he'll be back next season as sweet, sweet depth.
Belt playing left is probably the bigger story, but Petit is my ... well, not white whale. He's more like a whale with a monocle and a handlebar mustache. Probably not meaningful. Could potentially hurt you in a serious way. But fascinating!
