Matt Cain Starting All-Star Game

It was as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced ... for two seconds before they started up with the Internet raaaaaaaaage. Matt Cain will start the All-Star Game for the National League.

If you ignore W/L records -- and you should, as Santiago Casilla is the reason Cain doesn't have 11 wins -- the two pitchers are eerily similar this year. A good tiebreaker would be consistency, then. This is Dickey's third good-to-great year in a row, whereas it's Cain's sixth. This is Dickey's first All-Star Game; it's Cain's third.

Lemme just go on Twitter and make sure Mets fans are okay with this.

Matt Cain: because the one thing this All-Star Game needs is more Giants starting.
thank god matt cain is on NL team at least, we dont gotta worry about David Wright gettim beaned in the head!
according to the New York Daily News..Matt Cain will start over R.A. Dickey in the 83rd All Star Game...the Giants just keep getting lucky

Not as many naughty words as I expected -- only about every other tweet. But still plenty. This will give the Giants -- the team the Pittsburgh Pirates just used to swab the deck -- four starters against the best players in the American League. One of those players will be Pablo Sandoval, who beat out Mets third baseman David Wright in the fan vote.

A list of San Francisco Giants who have started the All-Star Game:

Tim Lincecum - 2009
Jason Schmidt - 2003
Rick Reuschel - 1989
Vida Blue - 1978
Juan Marichal - 1965, 1967

Oh, also, Matt Cain.
