Saturday highlight from the Giants farm: Ricky Oropesa homered among four hits. Also notable, Joe Panik homered and singled.

AAA: Fresno lost to Las Vegas 4-2

Fresno: 3B Conor Gillaspie: 3 for 5, 2B
Fresno: 1B Brett PIll: 2 for 4, SO

Fresno: SP Eric Hacker: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 7 K-1 HB, 1 BK

Gillaspie had three of the Grizzlies' six hits, including his 7th double, raising his AVG to .335. Pill, playing his first PCL game this year, singled twice.

Hacker suffered just his second loss this year after allowing 4 ER in the 5th inning. It was just the second time he had allowed more than 2 R in a start in his last ten starts. He has a 3.27 ERA after a dozen starts.

AA: Richmond lost to Portland 3-1

Richmond: CF Gary Brown: 1 for 4, BB, 2 SO
Richmond: DH Mark Minicozzi: 3 for 6, 2B

Richmond: SP Justin Fitzgerald: 7.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K--1 HR, 1 HB

Minicozzi had three of the Flying Squirrels' six hits. Playing his eighth game since joining the Squirrels, this was his first multi-hit game. Brown was one of two other Squirrels to reach base twice.

Fitzgerald allowed 3 ER in the 6th inning, but those were the only runs he allowed. He had his first quality start in just over a month.

A+: San Jose defeated Stockton 4-3

San Jose: SS Joe Panik: 2 for 4, HR
San Jose: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 4 for 4, HR, 2B

San Jose: SP Danny Sandbrink: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 10 K--1 HR
San Jose: RP Seth Rosin: 2.0 IP, 2 K

Oropesa had four hits. One of those hits was his 7th HR--a solo shot to lead off the 6th inning. Panik had a solo HR--his 2nd HR this year--in the 1st inning.

It's not too often you see a starting pitcher with more ER than H in a start, but that was the case for Sandbrink last night. Making just his second start, he was tough to hit, striking out half of his twenty batters and allowing just a couple hits. Sandbrink's 10 K are perhaps more remarkable considering he had just 8 K over his previous nine appearances combined. Were his 10 K also a season high for any San Jose pitcher this year? Rosin has struggled recently, allowing 12 ER in 8.1 IP over his last nine appearances, but he had 2.0 perfect IP last night.

A-: Augusta lost to Rome 4-3

Augusta: 2B Jose Cuevas: 1 for 4, HR, 2 SO
Augusta: 3B Garrett Buechele: 3 for 4, 2B, SO

Augusta: SP Edwin Escobar: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K--2 HR

Buechele's three hits lifted his AVG to .295, which leads the teams among those with 30+ AB. Cuevas had his 6th HR.

The box score suggests Escobar pitched well, but he took the loss after allowing 2 ER in the 5th inning and 2 ER again in the 8th inning. This was his longest start of the year coming off one of his shortest starts of the year (8 R in 2.1 IP).

DSL: Giants defeated Pirates2 8-5

Dominican: SS Rando Moreno: 2 for 3, 2B, 3 BB
Dominican: SP Juan Nova: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K--2 HB

Moreno (20.0 y.o.) reached base five times, lifting his OBP to nearly .500 after seven games. Nova (20.8 y.o.) has yet to allowed an earned run through two starts.
