minor lines, 7/8/11

Friday highlight from the Giants' farm: None quite "highlight" worthy?  Perhaps the two most notable performances came from short-season ball: Brett Krill homered again, and Adalberto Mejia had another very effective start.

AAA: Fresno lost to Tucson 4-3

Fresno: 3B Conor Gillaspie: 2 for 4, 2B, SO, E
Fresno: 1B Brandon Belt: 0 for 2, 2 BB, SO
Tucson: LF James Darnell: 1 for 3, HR, BB

Fresno: SP Matt Yourkin: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K--1 HR
Fresno: RP Justin Dowdy: 1.1 IP, 2 K
Fresno: RP Ronnie Ray: 1.0 IP, 2 K

Gillaspie had two of the Grizzlies' five hits, raising his AVG to .297.  Belt had two of their three walks.  Darnell, one of the Padres' top fifteen prospects who was playing in just his 4th PCL game, homered in his third straight game.

After allowing 4+ ER in each of his previous two starts, Youkin had a quality start.  Dowdy and Ray combined for 4 K in 2.1 perfect IP.

AA: Richmond hosting Harrisburg postponed by rain
(A makeup doubleheader is scheduled for today.)

San Jose: RP Mitch Lively: 1.0 IP, 1 K

Joseph led off the 2nd inning with his 10th HR.  LaTorre was the lone Giant to reach base twice.  Brown had an oh-fer night

With another quality start, Westcott improved his W-L record to 10-1 and edged his ERA a bit lower to 3.16.  Lively had a perfect 9th inning for his 6th save.

A-: Augusta defeated Asheville 9-1

Augusta: LF Rafael Rodriguez: 3 for 5, 2B
Augusta: C Joel Weeks: 3 for 4, 2B, BB, SO

Augusta: RP Justin Schumer: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--2 HB
Augusta: RP Seth Rosin: 1.0 IP, 1 K

While every GreenJacket in the lineup had a hit, Rodriguez and Weeks both had three hits, raising their respective AVGs to .238 and .319.

Bradley made his first start after seventeen relief appearances; Schumer made his first relief appearance after eleven starts.  Combined they allowed just 1 ER in 8.0 IP, but both still have ERAs above 5.00.  Rosin threw a perfect 9th inning.

Salem-Keizer: LF-RF Brett Krill: 2 for 5, HR, 2B, SO
Salem-Keizer: C Joseph Staley: 3 for 4

Salem-Keizer: SP Brandon Allen: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

Krill homered in his fourth straight game, this time with a walk-off, two-run, one-out HR in the 11th inning.  Staley's three singles raised his AVG to .256.

After beginning the season with three poor starts, Allen has now allowed just 1 ER in each of his subsequent two starts, getting his ERA down to 6.53.

DSL: Giants defeated Cubs2 7-4
