If you haven't seen the Stephen Drew injury yet, you're probably like me. I'll watch one of those "Real Housewives" shows before I watch a horrific injury like that on purpose.
With Drew out for the year, I just wanted to note that the Diamondbacks have called up Cody Ransom.

There are so many things wrong with that. Starting with Cody Ransom still a) exists, b) plays professional baseball, and c) is absolutely destroying AAA. Reno is an extreme hitter's environment, but still, those stats are impressive for a first baseman, much less a middle infielder.
Of course, we're talking about him right now because of another table you can find at Baseball Reference:

Ransom makes me think like a pre-2010 Giants fan. I look at his name, I see him on the roster of the Giants' direct competition, and I think dark thoughts. Because I'm in the middle of "Game of Thrones," I'm only capable of expressing my thoughts in fantasy-epic terms. Ransom:
- left his home in disgrace
- went into the woods or something for a decade
- got all strong and junk
- is now back with a rival faction, with experience and a little gray around the temples, looking for both redemption and revenge
That's too neat and symmetrical. It scares me. And I know he's probably not going to get a lot of playing time -- that's Willie Bloomquist territory -- but the narrative is there. If Cody Ransom kills the Giants, it's a neat part of a three-act structure (movie) or a 483,035-act structure (George R.R. Martin). It works either way.
I'd prefer Stephen Drew, both because of my preference to have the Giants win because they're the better of two injury-free teams, and because Cody Ransom is a mysterious sellsword with a history. I don't know why he'd be mad at us, but here he is. Scary.
