minor lines, 4/19/11

Tuesday highlights from the Giants' farm: Daryl Maday had 5.2 scoreless IP, Kelvin Marte allowed 1 ER in 6.1 IP, and Raynor Cambell homered and singled.

AAA: Fresno lost to Tucson 6-1

Fresno: SS Emmanuel Burriss: 2 for 4, CS
Fresno: 2B Brock Bond: 2 for 3, BB, CS

Fresno: SP Matt Yourkin: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K--1 HR

Batting in the top two spots in the lineup, Burriss and Bond combined for four of the Grizzlies' seven hits.

Making his third start, Yourkin allowed 4 ER.  He had allowed 6 ER and 1 ER in his previous two starts.

AA: Richmond lost to Trenton 2-1 (10 innings)

Richmond: CF Juan Perez: 1 for 3, BB, SO
Richmond: SS Joel Weeks: 2 for 4, CS

Richmond: SP Daryl Maday: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Richmond: RP Osiris Matos: 2.1+ IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Trenton: SP Manny Banuelos: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Perez and Weeks both reached base twice for the Flying Squirrels.  The team continues to struggle for baserunners as only two hitters have an OBP of .275 or higher.  The power is not much better as only two hitters have a SLG of .330 or higher.

Maday had a good start, allowing just five baserunners in 5.2 scoreless IP.  Matos had 2.1 scoreless IP before not retiring any of the three batters faced in the 10th inning.  The Yankees' Banuelos, who is probably one of the top 50 prospects in the minors, has yet to allow an earned run in 8.0 IP this year.

A+: San Jose lost to Inland Empire 1-0

San Jose; LF Wendell Fairley: 1 for 3, 2B

San Jose: SP Kelvin Marte: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
San Jose: RP Andrew Reichard: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 K--1 E

Fairley's double was one of just three hits for the Giants.

Marte had another fine start, allowing just 1 ER, which actually increased his ERA to 1.02.  His stat line also included an 11/2 GO/FO.  Reichard retired seven of nine batters faced.

A-: Augusta defeated Delmarva 7-6
(scoring two runs to tie in the 8th inning and then scoring the winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning)

Augusta: SS Raynor Campbell: 2 for 5, HR
Augusta: C Jeff Arnold: 1 for 2, 2B, 3 BB, SB
Delmarva: 3B Jonathan Schoop: 3 for 4, SO

Augusta: SP Mario Rodriguez: 6.2 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 K
Augusta: RP Stephen Harrold: 1.1 IP, 2 K

Campbell homered for the second straight day.  Arnold reached base four times, including three walks after not walking in any of his previous nine games this year.  Schoop, whom Baseball America ranked as the Orioles #10 prospect and who is the younger brother of Giants' farmhand Sharlon Schoop, had three hits to raise his AVG to .362.

Rodriguez pitched into the 7th inning, which seems to be the deepest a GreenJacket starter has gone this year, but he also had his second straight start with 11 H.  His BAA is .347.  Harrold had 2 K in 1.1 perfect IP.
